Snap a pic of the cdrom where it 'peeled'. If you cleared other panels and they were fine and only the rom drive messed up, I'm inclined to say there was dirt/oil/other unwanted things on the rom that caused the clear to peel.

Got a pic I/we can look at?

did you sand down the plastic before you painted? sometimes paint has a hard time to stick to smooth plastic...

Jessie's Gumdrop - Day 10

So coming off of yesterday's paint successes, I stumbled into an epic fail when I threw some clear coat on a glossed crdrom drive. here's the damage

after sanding down the one damaged face (3m wetordry 400), I prepared it by scuffing it with a coffee filter, then cleaning it off with a cotton cloth and tiny bit of windex sprayed on the cloth. I let it dry 15 minutes then recoated twice with Krylon black gloss. I could have sanded better in the square divet but whatever. I think the salvage job went ok

I taped off the back plate and touched up the rivet gun marr, and an imperfection from pro paint. hard to see even when outlined

Assembly begins. here's the hdd getting mounted in the rail kit. I used magic fingers to start the screws

ready to pop rivet the drive cage back on. I used painters tape to set the right height and hold the cage until I could get the first 2 rivets in

front 4 rivets. my plastic protector was priceless, its pictured a few pics down.

slid in the rail kit and hdd to test fit

cage, railkit, and lid starting to come together

thats the pop rivet guard I made. just a plastic card with a hole drilled in it (bigger than the 1/4 head of the pop rivet) If you plan to pop rivet and dont have something like this, you are asking (begging) for trouble. Make a guard when you rivet on finished/painted material, that gun jumps like a sob!

a quick vanity shot of the progress so far

test fit the right panel, just to see whats up, and was getting ready to mount roof handles

first one mounted. that Krylon clear really worked out nice on the black anodized handles

inside shot of the painted washers for the roof handles

next handle ready to go in

both mounted, starting to look good?

the feet washers pulled off of the tape that they were held on to for painting

mnpctech aluminum case feet, black, and mounting hardware

kill me now HOT!

right panel, c-channel from mnpctech and two sided 3m tape

c-channel needs a bit of support before clipping

clipped and seated

I used painters tape to hinge the mesh in the proper orientation while I set the 3m tape

after it was good I removed the 3m tape stickers and flipped the mesh over into its final position, then pressed the heck out of it

sleek, no?

put the door on to see how it looks. turns out the c-channel needs some support or else it will droop. I may put some light elmers glue in the channel just to support it. If anyone has a better idea I am all ears, i'd prefer not to glue anything if possible

threw the window panel on and snapped a pic just for fun.

tomorrow I will continue with the final assembly
thanks for watching

Yea it looks like you had some oil or fingerprints or something on the rom drive. I've had it happen, don't sweat it. Next time that happens, FYI, you can just let it fully dry, sand it back smooth, clean it, and reshoot it and you'll never know the difference (did both of my stealth covers on Phoenix like this, they peeled as well)

Now, that case, Rustler, that this is NICE! I am really digging the color scheme, your daughter is gonna be crazy over that thing! Looks like a Joker build (from Batman ya know ) with the black/purple. Just crazy man, I'm proud FOR YOU,lol, that's looking awesome!
