For a first time mod, you sure seem to have a natural ability with the tools dude!
She looks great! Oh & I just so you know, it looks like they used cast aluminum for the motor mounts. If they are made in China, they're fragile as hell. From what I understand, they don't do much to remove the impurities in the metals before casting the parts. Believe me, I've pressed hundreds of bearings into their crappy cast aluminum pistons on compressors I rebuild at work & they will just snap at the slightest bit of off-center pressure if I'm not careful. The good thing is they only cost about $10 to replace Keep up the good work brother! ![]()

![]() Yeah, crappy chinese cheapo manufacturing = crack. Anyway thats all sorted I just was in the shop for a feww minutes and have accomplioshed a few things -cut the printed template down to size and elmer's glued it to the paper backing of the uv acrylic, letting it dry -set up my dremel flexi-shaft with a small bit for plastics (5/64) to make small holes in all the interior portions of the script letters, so I can thread the saw blade in them when the time comes. -drilled a few test holes in scrap, and did a test with the blade threaded (simulating interior cuts for later) and I was able to do 360 degree scrolling, with very smooth cuts. Then I had some fun with a couple small irregular shapes ![]() these test cuts with the spiral blade have an even cleaner edge than the pics above. I used roughly the same speed SPM as I did yesterday, but the spirals blades have more TPI so the cuts were even smoother Luckily the saw has a one touch blade tension release switch, so when I need to move the blade between interior cuts, I only have to flip the release, and unhook the top portion of the blade, then retighten it. Changing out blades completely is a little more ass pain, but w/e ![]() CR=STOKED!

Jessie's Gumdrop - Day 13 - Acrylic & Scroll Saw Adventure
This thread has been around long enough so I guess I dont need to recap, so let's proceed, shall we? Glued the printed template down to the backer of the green UV acrylic changed the stock blade in the scroll saw to one of the new spiral blades and did a test cut. looks promising... used a small drill bit to make blade threading holes for the scroll saw blade thats the blade threaded thru the first hole starting to cut out the interior cuts moar finished the interior cuts, and drilled the pilots for the straight cuts. these are 1/4 holes because the straight blades I have are Pin-End, and I needed to be able to fit the pins thru blade ready for exterior cuts halfway done once I finished the spiral cuts, I did the straight cuts around the base parts hard to see but thats the fly that tormented me for like an hour (on the grey nozzle) I ended up killing him, and three of his friends, problem solved thats the rough cut out of the script a couple of base parts that I needed after about 45 mins of careful grinding with a dremel stone. still looks like a spastic cut it but I think thats the end of my skill-set with a scroll saw. Theres always flame polishing or buffing to clean it up, I guess. started gluing the base to the tabs that will hold the script upright, one tab in two tabs, hard to see the opening between glued everything in place and hung out in the shop long enough for it to set up. Its drying now until tomr. I will re asess the edges tomr, and grind some more if need be, but its looking like its needed. I dont like the "haggered" look it has, but some of that is the paper and not the acrylic, so we'll see tomr. For mounting I will use 3m tape to mount the bottom of the base to the bottom of the case, so the script shows thru the window. Well, thats about it for today. Very awesome! I qas just thinking as I saw the first pics of the saw blade "I would cut that so crooked, lol" and you did as well. I'm not the only one then! Good!
![]() The script looks good though, I think that will look awesome in the window. I really like how you made it a stand rather than glued to the window. It will look like a PC billboard with her name on it! Thats awesome man!

ah ok, so its like the scroll saws I'm used to
the blade looked twisted though, like it was meant to spin or something.

its spiral. so when the blade goes up and down, you dont have to only cut from the front, you can push the material at the blade from any direction, and pivot the material in place 360 degrees
