Hey looking good bro-man! Wow that rivet set is just like the one I used isn't it? Great set though, can't beat that for $34!

Window looks nice, I like the hole-saw to round the edges.

Now, paint paint paint!! Lol

Yep that tool is handy to have around just in general, makes me want to fasten stuff to stuff, for no reason LOL.
The window was fun to cut with the hole saw. Im getting good with that thing. I need to get a longer locking arbor. The pilot bit on the one I have is kinda short, almost flush to the holesaw teeth. Almost caused a big problem yesterday but I sorted it. After the second cut I switched to a longer pilot bit that is just collared (no locking fly), but now that thing is bound up in the holesaw need to break out the ratchets and box wrenches from the car, again.

As far as painting, yeah, its time to make a decision and get moving on it. I am considering having the parts professionally painted, but I havent decided yet. Not because I prefer to have someone else do it, I want to do all the work myself, but I have to think about a few factors...

Time: I really only have weekends to work on this, so it would be sort of slow going, since I want it color sanded and clear coated on the outside

Experience: I have never painted anything before, on the level of what I want for this case. Yeah I have rattled a few cans in my day, but that doesnt count really.

Facility: This by far is the biggest problem. I am working out of a garage with a peeling floor from a flood a couple years back, and its generally dusty. Spraying could be done in there I guess, just by the door, but I worry about the drying, plus my wife and daughter go in and out thru there to get to and from their car. Not to mention all the crap in the air this time of year - its like frigging cotton balls flying around out there

Outcome: Like I said, I want it to have a "glass" finish and the combo of time, experience, and facility directly relate to the outcome. I mean part of me says "stop being a wuss, move your arse, and go for it already!", the cautious perfectionist side of me says "you want it looking like ****e, or done right?" So here I am. I think I will try and see if I can find out some prices etc to have it done professionally, and weigh that into the equation as well. I will plod on with the remaining steps as if I am going to paint it myself, but I will make the final decision in the next couple of days. Really all that is left is the painting (aside from a few bits left to sand today). After that the real fun of assembly can begin I'll keep you posted - thanks for reading my babble. Cheers.

lol, not all of nyc is concrete canyons. Really only manhattan, and parts of western queens and brooklyn is like that. The outter boros are more "suburban", especially where I live in eastern queens (whitestone/bayside/east flushing areas). My wife and I do ok, but we are not "rich" by any stretch of the imagination. We live in a town-house style attached house, but we rent it. Luckily it has a basement that connects out to a garage and back driveway area. The garage has been converted slightly into my little workshop.

I just ordered a few more "finish" parts for this project...
-a bunch of purple annodized thumbscrews which I will use for the expansion cards
-nickle/black slotted expansion slot covers for the empty slots (which I may paint the case color, or have them painted)
-a sheet of ac ryan modders mesh Black (ArcticMods has it in stock) I have the silver stuff which I was going to paint black, but since this was available I grabbed it, reduces paint work
-uv case lamp 4"

so I think thats everything now. now I just need to sort out the painting issue.

Lol, fo really!

On the paint situation. I painted my (Phoenix) case outside, color and clear, and its pretty glassy. A little orange peel, but fairly nice, a/b 6 coats of rattle can clearcoat.

You can get a great finish in your garage, the floor and such won't bother that much on just a PC case. If you feel like you have alot of trash in it after the color coats just lightly sand it once and then mist another coat on it, then clear.

What I did with trash in my clear (a few peices that would have bugged me) was put on a/b 4 coats. Sand out the little peices (like a 1000-2000 grit) and then put 2 more coats on it. Looks fantastic. By the time you get it on a desk, you'll never see a little orange peel in it.

I think you're more than capable of DIY bro, have faith in yourself!

the case is steel right?
make sure you sand down/prime it before you paint. I painted a steel case black without sanding or priming and I'm able to scratch the paint off with my fingernails. I didn't put clearcoat down yet though...
Good luck! Maybe paint the expansion slot covers green if you don't paint them purple
