I'd say with little bit side-to-side rocking while pulling up, the fan connector will let go but if feels like it will not then you could always cut the wires to free the current fan and solder in the new one - just make sure you cut as far away from the circuit board as possible to make the job of soldering in new fan easier.

I still need to figure out how to remove the circuit board though.

And I don't have a soldering gun thing.

I guess I'll just leave the PSU un-modded. Waiting for hole saw from Mc Master Carr.

There should be 4 screws holding it to the casing. Most PSUs are grounded like that.

Yeah, I figured it out soon enough, sticker took a _ load of time to take off though...

I should go get some earplugs to make sure I don't get tinnitus...
Sabre saw is ridiculously loud.
Sounds like a jackhammer or something.

Update:

Yay, I'm finally officially starting this project.

Jigsaw Blades

So.... Stopped by at Home Depot. Nice metal cutting 36tpi jigsaw blades. Tested them with my sabre saw, they fit.

Cutting Stand

Well, I needed a way to cut the metal/wood without slicing whatever was underneath it in half. After some thought, I decided to make a two stands. Shown here is one of them. I sort of made up the design as I went along. I got lazy/tired after finishing the first one and decided to go back in. And the mosquitoes were really annoying me.

I'll go make another stand tomorrow, and start cutting.

I never noticed how much wood we had. There's this HUGE 8'x4'x6' pile of stacked pieces of wood in the backyard. And a couple of huge tree trunks from the tree we cut down in the backyard a few years back.

Just read through the updates, looking good so far!

Random thoughts -

The plastic in the PSU is to keep some parts from shorting onto other parts I think. I think, lol.

Like EuroFix said, just cut the old fan out and solder a new fan in. I did that with my PSU. If you want PM me and I'll see if I can dig up some pictures for you (they might be in my Phoenix build log too, not sure)

That is all. Back to work!

Thanks Repo.

Update:

Wow... Spent 1.5hrs walking to and back from a Walgreens ~4miles away from my house. (It's the closest one. WTH?)

Products I bought:

Totally worth the 1.5hrs... Yeah.
Cost me ~6 bucks for them.
Now I need to go make another cutting stand. Grandfather got sort of pissed at me for making the first one, since he said it wasn't "stable" and wouldn't work.

So... I'll have to go by his design for my second stand (Since it is his wood afterall), and he's too busy working on the garden right now, but the stand will probably be finished by tonight.

but from your diagrams it showed that you have your PSU as INTAKE?

why would you do that?

It's actually quite stable, as long as it's on flat ground, which there isn't a lot of in my yard due to little mounds of dirt where grass has already grown, and little bumps in the asphalt where cracks have formed. Also, the house is built on a hill, which doesn't help much either.

It was a mistake.
First, when turning on the PSU, I felt the area next to fan on the PSU, and it felt like the air was being pulled in, so I thought it was intake. However, doing further research, I found that the air flows towards the frame, so it's actually exhaust. I just didn't feel like changing the diagram.
