Ouch, that MHz!
|
I finally picked up a third hard drive about a month back and realized that it totally killed all my airflow. As a result, I decided to take on a small mod involving the HDD bay area. This is basically how I started, but cram another hard drive between those WD's.
![]() The proposed plan is to rotate the drives 90° so I can fit all three drives evenly spaced and not hit my video card. It also allows me to custom-tailor the drive spacing for maximum airflow into the case. Now once I begin something I generally go from start to finish with little ambition to take pictures along the way. I have to be in to work early tomorrow so I've decided to stop half way through. Tomorrow I'll snap some pics of progress and post the final product. Here's a rough 10 minute sketch of the plan. ![]() The attachment braces are the existing HDD cage cut into strips to solve the problem of getting the mounting holes in just the right place and to allow a free crossflow off air over the drives and into the case. The suspension material is 1/16" aircraft cable from Home Depot that runs about $0.24/ft. The intake fan (not shown above) will be moved to the outside metal case and will occupy this cavity below. The power and reset switches are being stealth on the side of the plastic fascia. ![]() That's all for now, should have final pics tomorrow.
