sorry to hear about the painting problems you had. I have over-read about painting and I think I could do a good job but I am trying one last guy to see if I can have it done. My biggest issue is not having the right space to paint in. If this guy goes south then Im just gonna do it. Your case looks good enough though, difinitely derivet next time like you said. And from everything I read its all about many light coats (primer and paint), then some hi grit wet sanding on the color coats, then some clear, then some rubbing compund for that mirror finish... from what I read of course, not from experience (yet)

good work, keep it up

You didn't de-rivet?

That's going to haunt you later on.

No worries on not de-riveting the case. As long as you sanded it well, you'll be fine. I haven't had any issues out of the 3 cases (so far) that I've painted and have not de-riveted.

Wow, I really thought that was a silver on the case, must just be the camera I guess

For a first time paint job, it looks good man. You learned the most important lesson in painting, slow light coats!

You should do the PSU flip mod as well. There is at least one how-to on it around these forums

As long as I sanded ... well ... I ... uh ... left out that part ...

As far as the flip mod goes, I'm waiting on my 3-4th RMA on the BFG power supply I have. It keeps dying after the first boot.

Excellent work you are doing here, it's a great bit of work so far. I really appreciate people who are this particular with their components. I have friends that tell me I am WAY too interested in computers and this site just helps to ease the insults since there are so many like minded people. Not like I am worried about what they think of me anyways but ammunition is always handy.

Thanks bud, I feel exactly the same way, my old man is something of well ... an old timer and he complains that I've gone a bit overboard. But a hobby is a hobby and well if I went overboard the way he does with high fidelity audio equipment ... 'nough said.

In any case, I converted two non-believers today, guys that thought it was high-falutin' to have a beastly computer today, I had them play through COD4's intro stage ... they loved it, thought it was the most intense thing ever. I told 'em, this is what a thousand bucks and sleepless nights gets you!

Added some pictures of the case with components inside, as before, waiting on some HDD mounts and cables. Then laborious CM work will be come ...

I don't know how much or how long (or how hard (that's what she said, apparently)) a window mod will run me, so while I do my homework input is appreciated!

Also, as an extra aside, after talking with a buddy of mine who does his own paintjobs on bike frames, you should probably set aside a couple of days for paint curing (a coat a day) instead of going through coats every 30 minutes to an hour like myself.

curing takes about a month, setting is about a day or less - and if you plan to wet sand between color coats and doing all that it takes to get a pro finish, expect to set aside a couple of weeks. I am bringing my project case out to a pro painter today $150 - 1 week.
