Default [Completed] Antec 900 Cable Management, Paint, and Window Mod

Finished pics

Things to note,
    • It's great to know a chick that loves you at Fry's so you can get discounts
    • It's equally great to know the guys that work at Lowe's
    • Measure twice, cut once ... big emphasis on the cut once
    • Make sure all moving parts are secured when cutting ... I had the arbor of one of the holesaws come off on me somehow and it ran a bit before I could stop the drill
    • It's nice to have a box underneath your cutting area to catch all of the little metal bits
    • Wear pants and light long sleeved shirt to work because the little pieces of metal will burn
    • Always wear safety stuff (glasses)
    • Gas prices are outrageous these days
    • Paint in thin, light coats, many times
    • When installing things, best to have a magnetic screw driver
    • When doing things, take it nice and easy, crack open a beer/soda/water what have you and take your time.
    • Did I mention how expensive gas is these days?

Thank you! I noticed that you did some painting of your own before ... any recommendations?

actually my project is ready for paint, but I havent painted anything yet at all. I was looking around for a pro job but people are flaking out left and right so I may just paint it myself. I cant really offer advice other than read the tutorials, but since youve already painted I guess thats a bit late Hopefully you primed the metal before painting. Good luck with your project

EDIT: nvm, I see the white was primer, my bad

I really like the color, what paint is it? It resembles the gunmetal metallic I used on my last build. Looks great so far, I'll be the second + for ya,lol.

What else do you have planned for this case?

Yeah, and my painting ended up to be a little bit of a disaster. The priming was phenomenally easy, but the base paint however, was not. I've had to go back and reprime and recoat some places because of impurities and spotty areas. My biggest advice to any painters is that you should go in light coats and as even as possible, DO NOT go back to get spots you missed. For me it led to some uneven areas as well as poor results.

I primed the case with Rust-oleum Bare Metal Primer and painted then with Krylon Flat Black Fast Dry. As an aside, it should be noted that the Krylon had some problems adhering in some places to the primer (corners) and that it can rub off after painting so a little rub down with an old towel is definitely recommended.

For the time being I'm done with any major modifications. I'm going to backmount the HDDs with Scythe Stabilizer IIs when I get those and do a window cut in the near foreseeable future.

Other thoughts ... next time I paint a case (which is remarkably cheaper than a professional spray or powdercoat) ... I'll definitely drill out the rivets and paint everything piece by piece.
