I think the chasis came out good. It is a lot of work and time consuming, but once completed and assembled, it is sooo worth it.

Remember that masking/duct/electrical tape adhesive gets gooey after some amount of time, leaving your case and cables all sticky. Wire ties admittedly take a little more planning, a little more drilling, but are clean and more secure. Just trying to help you out.

At the end of the build, you have to be happy with the results that you look at every day.

Yeah that's what I meant, since the ones already cut are made from 4 holes, not 2 like the one you made.
It's still a nice job though.

Well, the chassis turned out very well. I just wish I hadn't painted the hdd cages. There's already spots where the paint has come off after sliding them in and out. Oh well. At least nobody will see those parts.

You know I was afraid of something similar happening to my HDD cages and chassis. I lightly rubbed a bar of soap on the edge of the drive cages where it contacts the chassis. (i.e. dry lubrication) Then wiped off any excess and slid them right in.

I wish I had thought of that. But it still seems like even that wouldn't have worked. Did you paint all of the inside of the 5.25-inch bays? I only did the back one, and I didn't paint it fully. Perhaps that's my problem.

Oh well. I guess I'll just deal with it for now.

Well, I'm now in the process of sanding off all the paint on the sides of my hdd cages. I think I found the secret to painting today. It's called wet sanding.

Here's what everything currently looks like:

I'm still working on the other hdd cage, and I'll need to do a bit more work on the hdd cage that's in there right now as well.

Very nicely done!

Are you happy with the results? Only thing I would do, if that were my system would be to remove the thumb screws and drive screws and paint them flat black (primer + flat paint)as well, so they just blend into the case. Unless of course, you were going for the chrome look?

I like how it turned out!

I would get some 90 degree SATA cables.

That's what I'm planning on doing next. I'd like to route the SATA cables out through the side of the hdd cages to the back behind the motherboard tray, and then route them through the PSU cable hole.

I actually like the chrome look. I've decided I'm just going to wetsand the sides of the hdd cages until they're almost chrome-like. Then I don't need to worry about paint scraping off anywhere. Also, I noticed after I waited a few days that the paint became much tougher. I guess I really just should have waited.
