Default [Project] Canon Server Case

Hey, I am starting on a new project. This old canon server case is in need of at least a fresh coat of paint.

These are the colors I decided to pick from. I will be using the lighter silver metal flake and the dark grey color that is pulled foreward.
The inside of the case will be a satin dark grey metal flake.
The outside will be very high gloss.

The entire case has been de-riveted and broken down + sanded.
I will have to do a little more touch up sanding before the primer phase.

The front panel (getting ready for primer)

Sanded case - Front = Bottom of case

Sanded case - second view

Inside

Cutout PSU fan grill

Cutout Back Fan Grill - Looks off in this pic for some reason, but it is nearly perfect.

I will be finishing up the sanding completely today. I was planning on getting all of the primer done and starting the paint, But I am having some issues. The compressors are not getting enough power. This is due to faulty power wire that was run to the shop underground. (will be fixed by tomorrow)

I will also be installing a window in the side panel. This will be hard because of the precut pattern on the panel, but I think I can make it work.
I will update pictures daily until this project gets finished.

Thanks for looking!

Tonight I sprayed everything with a light coat of primer and painted the inside of the case.
I will tape off the inside and finish priming / sanding tomorrow.
I ended up cutting a spot in the front to place a 120mm fan.

I still need to cut out the front cover. I also found a speaker grill that will work perfect as a vent on the front on the case.

I wanted to post a couple pictures at least so I dont have to leave you all hanging.

You can sort of see the grill sitting on the top of the front panel in this picture

The inside of the case honestly turned out like crap. But most of it will be covered up, and I don't know if I can commit to resanding and painting it.
You can see it is very cloudy, this is because I used a can of rim paint that I had sitting there. It looked bad after two coats, so I decided to empty the can into my spot spraying gun and finish it off with no better results.
The smaller spray gun was still too big to maneuver around the inside of this case, and somebody ripped off my airbrush. (I will be getting a new one next week)
I sprayed a heavy coat of urethane clear over all of it to try to salvage the terrible paint.

Was is Duplicolor rim paint? Looks like the same color I used on my Phoenix build. If it is, don't sweat it too much, I got cloudy results as well. Ended up putting a few more coats than I wanted to to even it up.

Looks good though!

LOL!
Yes, it duplicolor. The color is graphite. +rep for the flawless guess
I was telling myself to just use the premixed paint, but I was sure I could get it on even, and the color looked perfect when I sprayed a sample. Pretty dumb of me to go with spray paint when I have so many other options.
Glad I learned this lesson before moving on to a more expensive case

i meant "was it duplicolor,lol.

And yea, I think thats the same color I used. It's a great color, but it has so much metallic in it, you have to keep the can well shaken to keep the color even, at least in my experience.

Very true.

That is why I thought it would work fine out of a normal air gun.
It will not look too bad after the motherboard is in, the motherboard I got is huge, and the psu / drives cover all of the spots that have the bad clouding effect.
I have the inside taped off and the case is now hanging waiting for it's final exterior coat of primer. I will get the dark grey base coat sprayed on it tonight (using real paint this time) and post pics around 9:00 pm western.

Thanks for the input,
I will keep you updated!

Yea, that rattle can metallic just doesn't stay suspended like a conventional (gravity feed type gun) paint. I don't know why, lol.

I'll be keeping an eye out for an update!
