My plan is for the inside to be metallic black, with the outside being mostly metallic white with some black, and plenty of blue lights inside. For now its just going to have air cooling because I need to replace most of my watercooling parts and dont have the cash or need for those right now. This is the same project from this thread. I am going to be editing this thread and try to keep all updates in the first post so if this gets to a few pages everything will be on page 1. Update #2 7/23/08
__________________1st coat of primer on the front piece: ![]() ![]() Second Coat on the side panels: ![]() ![]() It seems im blowing through paint way faster than I originally thought. I have given 2 coats to both sides of the side panels and one coat on the front piece and i have already gone through 3 cans of primer. Are my coats way too thick? Also another problem I have been running into is when I clean the surface with tac cloth, some fibers break off the cloth and stick to the piece, and dont show up until they get painted. Although they are easy to get off after they get painted, how can I prevent them for getting stuck on the case in general?

make sure your wearing a respirator or at least opening up all the windows in that basement... doesn't seem like there would be a lot of ventilation?

Dont worry im painting outside while surrounded by plenty of fans sucking away the fumes, also with proper facial protection. This primer fumes like crazy, i'd probably die doing it inside. Anyways there are tons of bugs, leaves, and other things you would find outside in chicago-area suburban illinois, so once I paint I try to move it inside as soon as the primer dries enough. I'll probably have some pics of my outdoor painting setup in the next update

ahh cool, I look forward to the pictures of the outside setup
I have the same problem at home here... I paint outside at the foot of the backdoor steps (basement door) and there are always bugs and little tiny flecks of leaves falling down the steps... so I always move things back inside after most of the fumes are gone.

Update #3 7/24/08
__________________So last time I primed, I had completely drained Murray's dupli-color white primer supply. Today I headed over to autozone to see if they had any, and i was out of luck. Since Autozone is only a block away form Murray's, I decided to head over and see if they had restocked. I went to the paint section and there was nothing, I was out of luck. As I was walking towards the door an employee passed me, and I noticed in his hands he has two cans. Two cans of white dupli-color sandable primer. My target had appeared. I stopped him and he gladly surrendered the cans, stating that they were the last two they had in stock. Victory. At this point it was already 5:00PM, so I quickly started to set up my painting booth and prepped my parts. This time I snapped some pics before/during painting while still outside so as not to give people the opinion im painting in my basement. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The top goes in for its first coat of primer: ![]() ![]() The front gets its second coat of primer: ![]() Side panels go in for their 3rd coat of primer: ![]() ![]() ![]() Done for the day, brought everything in and splashed the hot water from the bucket down to clean up the paint dust from the floor. ![]() Im now probably going to start sanding the side panels a bit. They seem to need a lot more primer compared to the plastic parts which look fine after 1-2 coats. I will try to go for 3 coats of primer for the plastic parts, and maybe 4-6 on the side panels. One problem I am still having with the side panels are the fibers from the tac cloth breaking off and sticking, completely invisible to the naked eye before painting. Once you pant over them they stick out, although most can simply be removed by lightly sliding your finger over the fiber. Unfortunately I haven't even touched the chassis yet, its still sitting bare, stripped of all paint and adhesives, waiting for its first coat of primer.

I will have some more updates soon, im finishing up priming and have started doing the first coats of paint on some things-all the priming was getting boring and I doubt anybody cares about all the individual primer coats.
__________________On a side note, ive been thinking about putting my water cooling setup in this, does anyone know of a radiator that can fit in the front of an antec 900? It would have to fit in the space of 8 disk drives piled up. Im not concerned at all about length, its mainly the width. Im also looking for a dirt cheap one.
