If you need any tips for etching, Im working on a new methd myself for it. 2 actually. get paper sized labels (white), and decide what you want engraved and were, then invert it so it flips and everything is backwards. Print on the label and attach it to the acrcylic. Exacto knife out the lettering and logos and such, then you either...

1) Take low grit sandpaper and scuff up the acrylic so it looks rough
2) Purchase a glass frost spray paint... makes it look like it is scuffed, only much easier to do letters with a spray can then sandpaper.

Remove the rest of the label and there ya go, real easy etching.

Looking nice otherwise and good luck in your competition.

meh, thanks for the tips, but I actually plan on hand etching it (with an engraving pen)

each of the names will be fairly small and thus I won't need to do a lot of shading so I don't want to take the time to stencil it out

thanks for the kind words!

anyways, here is a small update, more work will be started around 8 tonight... for now I'm going to laze around... actually I'll be playing Medieval II! For some reason, I really started loving it... I guess it was watching so many medieval war movies? I'm currently playing the grand campaign as Scotland... I wanted to stay in high ranks with the Pope, so I sent 85% of my troops (King too) on the crusade to Jerusalem... I beat the people there, and subsequently lost my position in the British Isles... England started owning me once my main force had left... Oh well, I gave up all my land there for around 10,000 florins, so all is well! Although now I'm a vassal to England... but that means nothing since I can just go against my word... they pretty much paid me to leave... so now I have 4 large cities in the Middle East! Gaza, Jerusalem, Antioch (It was another crusade! The Pope really loves me now) and one other place which I forget...

I started work on the right side panel, currently its been bloodied and its drying... so I'll post pictures of that tomorrow

Yeah... I know the dremel attachment is on incorrectly... it was my first time using it! I had placed the bit in too far out and I started cutting using a mere metal dowel... but then I learned what was wrong when the bit fell out... I tried to grab it with my bare hand and burned myself... click the picture of my finger for a bigger one... you can see the silvery coloring that burned onto my skin!

I redid the front panel and its been bloodied as well, here it is again... the blood on the lines made it crack a bit, but meh, it looks less clean which was the original message anyways.

oh, and this update has been brought to you by Dr. Pepper Diet (Caffeine Free)! one of my new favorite diet sodas... it has almost no aftertaste although the flavor has suffered a little... after this, my favorite is Diet Mountain Dew which has the same great taste, but has a weird aftertaste... my least favorite is of course diet coke and pepsi... both have horrible tastes and aftertastes...

anyways... I will begin cutting out some of the gun cutouts... and I'll also maybe begin work on the etchings... who knows...

The thing with the A.C.Ryan UV CCFLs is that they tend to be somewhat more in the UV spectrum than most UV CCFLs are; true UV light cannot be seen by the human eye and what you see is actually the portion of the light spectrum they emit that's in the lower end of the violet range, so you might think it's dimmer even so it's producing just as much or more UV light than other UV CCFLs.

Looks great Commander! *salutes*

erm... if I may be so bold:

I have found that flipping the guide around helps me make cleaner cuts. (if I am interpreting your image correctly, the setup shown made the cut (?) )

The modding of this case is moving along in a professional manner.

Well done.

lol yeah, looking at the picture I realized the guide was backwards... but meh, it didn't matter in that case for a clean cut since it was never going to be seen heh

and thanks for the kind words

ok... this i what may be the final update!

I am tired of working on this mod... I think in the future I'll do specific things, rather then just themed cases... such as custom window jobs (you'll see what I mean in the coming weeks) and maybe some hand made fan grills...

I didn't do everything that I had originally planned, and I went the conservative route... Tomorrow I will tune in the CPU and make it run as fast as it can go... the last time I had a liquid system, I got it up to 3.7 GHZ Prime95 12 hours stable... we'll see what this system can do!

... so let the update begin:

I received the 24" x 12" black colored aluminum sheet today! It looks beautiful! (well not in this picture since the plastic covering is still on...)

Oh and here is my worktime distraction! House M.D. streaming online! (Legally of course) Usually as mentioned, I listen to Maximum PC 'No BS' Podcast and PC Gamer's podcast, but lately I have also strayed to all the TWiT podcasts, Leo Laporte is great.

I then began work cutting it with the dremel guide attachment... I also did a test bend on one of the scrap pieces to get a feel for the bending brake... There were some mess ups int he cutting, but it worked out since I had left extra room for me to grind/sand the edges down straight

I however apparently measured things horribly wrong, and after all the bending and cutting, the piece was short in width and too long... (I guess that is why you shouldn't watch House while working!) so I ended up altering the original design and I must say I like it much better now.

I ended up cutting two pieces of that long bent piece that matched up the width of the bottom of the case and attached them on the end and the front of the case itself horizontally. They look great, and serve the purpose of letting more air in through the bottom (since the two fans on the bottom are intake and all airflow is directed upwards in this case)

Apparently... I used the wrong color paint on the front panel, which was a slightly lighter red... but it looks great in person since it isn't as orange as it seems in the pictures... (very old camera...) it creates a nice contrast since the drive bay covers and stealthed optical drive have the original color.

I assure you guys though, the alternate colors look great in person! I might try to get my hands on a better camera for some good pictures...

Speaking of which... I also ended up stealthing the optical drive instead of just painting the faceplate. The way I saw it... was that the faceplate would still look very different... so I just cut up the extra drive bay cover I had which was already painted, and just #4010 taped it to the CD drive bay! now it works great, you just push it and it opens!

Thanks for all the support! I hope to do more work on OCN soon!

Dude, I seriously love that splatter effect you have. To the point I wish I had a mod that the theme would look good with it,lol. I think the case looks great!
