I was planning on finishing Belial up sometime this weekend but I think its gonna be delayed one more week. I've been slacking on it cuz I really don't need the case at all atm .

Anyway I've got a pico-ITX home server to build and no case to put it in. I'm gonna start working on this as soon as the first parts come in the mail (this week). Only thing is I need some suggestions with layout, and any help is appreciated. Hell, I could also use a name

This is the hardware. As you can tell, I'm trying to make it as compact as possible.

VIA Pico-ITX motherboard (7.2cm x 10cm), except mine has the IDE connector on the side not the top


WD Scorpio WD1600BEVS (single platter 2.5")


44 pin female IDE to CF adapter (this has to connect directly to the motherboard)


Seagate ST1.2 8GB Microdrive (yes, this is a 1 inch hard drive )


90W Pico-PSU


Slim Slot Load DVD+/-R


Sony STS-133 Speaker System (I'm gonna take this apart for the small 1.3" drivers)

Probably right on my desk by my routers

Almost exclusively for Active Directory and RIS, but I may use it for "another application but I'm not telling you"



But now the drive seems to be giving me problems. If I put it in my card reader windows just freezes up until I remove it again. And if I put it in my printer it says that the drive can't be formatted. I guess I'll wait to see what happens with that IDE adapter.

Part #2 arrived today. I swear, this thing is tiny as hell. We've definitely come a long way since the days of the AT motherboards.

In case anyone is actually following this, here's an update.

The case is going to be made out of 98% acrylic, 1% Weldon #3, and 1% aluminum screws. I also managed to pick up a slot load DVDROM for it (I'm a big fan of those).

Anyway, its gonna come out looking sort of like a museum display case. The DVDROM and PSU are going to be hidden in a base along with all the cables, and the mobo and hard drives are going to be placed on a rack "on display", so to speak. The viewing area will have a double floor so that it can get some airflow without having any visible vents or fans.

The actual building is gonna start pretty soon.
