Lightbulb [Project] NZXT Tempest FrankenRig

Hey Guys,
Looking for a little advice, my current rig is a listed in my systems and has served me well for a year or so but has always frustrated me in the overclocking stakes (Maxes out at 2.75Ghz no matter what was a stormer with a C2D) , So after a shrewd purchase from a friend (and forum member) I have come into posession of a 240mm XSPC Rad, Cpu block, Single bay reservoir and pump (leaks).

Time to tweak, I've had watercooling before with my Aquagate, but this'll be my first custom system, some parts to be transferred others bought new, cost to be contained.

:EDIT:
Here's the spec:
NZXT Tempest (With 240mm Rad mounted top)
XSPC Dual bay reservoir Pump (I think it's neater and less prone to leaks)
Supplied Copper slug Cpu block
1/2" Hose and Feser Hi flow Barbs all round
ASUS P5Q Pro P45 Mobo
Existing Q6600
4x1Gb XMS2 667 traded for 2x2Gb OCZ Reaper 800 4-4-4-15
Maxtor RAID array retained + spare 160gb IDE drive kept as Swap space
Corsair Toughpower 600w kept
LG GGC-H10L Blu-Ray / HD-DVD Drive added (Ripper mate!) Nope Cant afford it, it can wait
Samsung 18x DVDRW Kept
Asus 8800GT kept
Antec 900 three speed fans salvaged and swapped with NZXT where appropriate (don't get me wrong I love my 900, but I just can't squeeze the rad in whereas the Tempest is made for it) Gonna hafta call it Caliban or Prospero!

I need the brute force of my Quad core, I do a lot of .h264 video encoding and want a machine to pump out the frames, a good solid overclock is more important than a very high one (tho' that'd be great too)

3.6Ghz for day to day use could be possible with a following wind

Gaming comes a close second, how do you think I stand with this spec, any suggestions welcome

The rad should be fine just for the CPU loop. I wouldn't add the VGA without upgrading though.

Eww the 'M' word...(maxtor )

****EDIT****

You should do a build log with details on how to install the Rad into the chassis. I'm sure plenty of people would appretiate it since the Tempest comes ready for a 240mm rad.

Good Luck!

****EDIT AGAIN****

AHH!! I just saw that XSPC dual bay res! No! Sure it's a nice quality res but that submerged pump is going to dump all it's heat into your loop like crazy! I'd go with a swiftech Micro-Res and a nicer pump.

I have that res/pump and I don't find it produces too much heat, does anyone else have any else have it and have problems?

Talking Project Prospero begins

Hey Monk, knew you'd find me, thanks again for for the bits.

And so I hereby inaugurate Project Prospero, as I had some free time I have taken the monks advice and lapped the CPU waterblock, I have to say the machine lapped surface was pretty good but now its perfect, didn't take long and every little helps!

Before

Midway

Afterwards

Cpu Block and cleaned and flushed Rad (You animal Monk!)

Now to place the orders to arrive whilst I'm off, I'll be away for a week or so but intend to get started laying it out and testing the cooling loop when I return.

I'll document the build as best I can manage for those curious how this rad fits, I'm looking forward to doing a really neat job of the cabling this time as the cable management I have seen on other Tempest builds is extraordinary.

Also, about the reservoir, surely every pump will dump it's heat into the fluid passing through it, I can't believe it will be especially noticeable, I mean it only draws 7-8 watts at most.
You could equally say that as it's immersed in the coolant the pump will last longer as it's actively cooled!

:EDIT:
Just completed a clean and flush of the rad & block using the old pump and ira-k's water/vinegar cleaning solution (Props to Ira), got a surprising amount of sediment out.

Do you like my cleaning setup, it's pretty heath robinson, thanks to my dog for a food bowl!

Sigh,

I've been cruising the threads for a while and it's dawned on me that there is no way I'll get 1/2" tube to fit on my waterblock, the barb entry points are just too close together, this thing is built for 10mm OD or 3/8" systems.

Shown with 10mm Barbs for reference

XSPC X2O V2 on the way, Credit card bill £30 higher, bummer
Anybody want a lapped and cleaned block and mounting hardware?

Oh and a shot of my Current Antec 900 (spoken for) with a dual bay Coolermaster Aquagate ALC-U01 also looking for a new home.

No worries Monk, It was my choice to go 1/2", just one of the joys of a custom build!
