[Complete] A Round Wood and Acrylic Case - Overclock.net

This is the project log for a round wood and acrylic case.

The size of the case is 24-inches in diameter by 11-inches wide.

The stain color on the shell will be a dark oak and the acrylic sides will be gray/smoked.

An air cooled rig is going into the case and the client was very specific about the size, type, number and placement of the many case fans.

Obligatory shot of some of the raw materials and parts.

Three SCYTHE S-FLEX "F" 120mm fans and two Aerocool 140mm LED fans.

After a thorough sanding the shell gets a few applications of a water-based dark oak stain. At this point it looks more like a piece of chocolate than a computer case (yum!).

Over the course of several days a dozen coats of wipe-on polyurethane are applied (with the help of my handy-dandy "office chair" turntable):

The shell now looks like a piece of candy.

The polyurethane looks amazing!!! Reminds me of maskabudo's XICLE mod. I'm sub'ing for the creativity.

I managed to get into the shop for an hour or so this weekend.

I worked on getting the acrylic side panels cut. I don't have a bandsaw in the shop to make the circular cuts, instead I use my panel cutting jig on a table saw. After about 300 cuts I end up with this:

The cuts are very smooth and will only require a few passes on my stationary belt sander, followed by some wet sanding.
