Yeah, a psu in a separate brick would be the best idea, imho.

As far as a hard drive, notebook drives would probably work. SSDs would be better because they dissipate less heat but this doesn't look like an "unlimited budget" build.

Lol, can get the OCZ ones for 99, 32x2, if it's just a media center then it would be just fine.

I will retract my doubt when the time is right, should it work out that way. You are just going to have to prove it to me. I want to see it done. If this wasn't an awesome project I would'nt have subscribed.
The Pico would work just fine, it's a 200W design, but thermally limited. Even so, that hardware would never fully stress a Pico. The PW-200-V might be overkill, unless you can't source a PicoPSU.

Well, my experience is that a PicoPSU 120 can power a Quad + HD3870 even under load, so I don't know who's been feeding you that info. Also, you say you're getting a 120W AC/DC converter...you realize your maximum power is going to be limited right there, so that your 200W DC-DC unit is never going to even be able to output more than 120W DC.

see link for diff power consumptions situations

and how is 200W overkill? as u say it will only use what it needs and its just as small and even cheaper than alot of the others

overkill in the sense that you can't even use it to it's fullest potential because you're only feeding it 120W DC at max. As for my system, yes, it's all on a PicoPSU, but it's putting out more than 120W at full load, and it's perfectly stable. I spoke with the manufacturers, and they told me the Pico can provide the same amount of power as the PW-200 series if it has enough active cooling, which I do.

As for a cheap AC/DC, I bought a Dell Y2515, it's a 220W 12V DC power brick, though I don't know if it would work outside the US, or if you can even find it.
