That is actually a good way of doing it. Though I am not sure, but I have an EA Sports College FootBall USA 97 game cartridge taller than the rest of mine, and I don't play sports games, and I thought "Hey, maybe one of these could hold a 2.5" harddrive?".

Though, I can't find my measuring tape to check and see, but it looks like it should hold one. I'd think that'd be less difficult than two whole cartridges than that.

Though, perhaps marc.tulley could find a very cheap Genesis game at ebay, big enough cartridge size to hold a harddrive?

Speaking of those, how can you take them apart? They seem to use weird... screws/bolts.

*EDIT*

3 1/2" tall.

As for some type of game cartridge, like Sonic 3 with the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge, you get a tad over 5" total height. (I was able to measure my Sonic 2 and Sonic and Knuckles cartridges together to get you the height, in case it will help you out.)

You could always put the hard drive in the SegaCD box - not where the CD drive itself is (you obviously want to use that), but in the space underneath the PC.

You can probably mod a regular drive to fit in there. In all drives there's a switch somewhere inside that detects when the drive is open or closed, just make sure you connect that to the switch used on the SegaCD.
