Thanks guys. I have decided to give the sides a go. I also want to tackle the front panel real quick too. This will be the last week I have for a while to do any major work so I want to get it done. One question: What's the best way to secure the trashcan mesh to the top of the case panel? Should I just use some double sided tape?

If you're feeling creative and have time, you could use some short machine bolts with flat, cut washers to secure the mesh on. You'd have to drill out your holes then find some short machine bolts (1/2" long or so). It would be very secure and look pretty nice.
Double sided tape (the thicker foam kind - not thin doubleside scotch tape) should work fine as well. As for the dremel cutoff wheels, it might not be a bad investment if you purchased maybe two diamond cutoff wheels as opposed to lots of standard reinforced cutoff wheels. I think the diamond wheels run about $15 each but you might get longer life and easier cutting. Although I could be completely wrong and they could last only slightly longer which would be a waste of money lol. Anyone used the diamond wheels?

Great idea mate! As luck has it, I have some 8-32 x 1/4 and 1/2" machine screws and some acorn nuts to secure them with. Just need to get some washers if I'm doing it that way. Otherwise, I will most likely stealth it and use the double sided tape.
As for the cutoff wheel, I have never used a diamond wheel before, as This is all of the 4th time I have used a Dremel. Once before when trying to polish something on my car (=Fail) and now for my modding adventures. Edit - with regard to the side, I have something brewing in my mind. It's going to look awesome. It just came to me in a vision. Hopefully, the execution matches the vision. Also, can you mount 80mm fans into mesh?

I am a dremel noob as well
![]() I just got a nice 400 series dremel with a 40-piece kit and have yet to use it. I might pick up a few diamond wheels for cutting stuff off. The kit also has an attachment to use the dremel vertically (like a mini router) which I was thinking of using to cut out holes and patterns and such. I purchased a tungsten carbide cutting bit (not a drill bit) and hopefully i'll get to use it if I can ever get enough $$ to watercool my urban recon case

I picked up a Multipro Model 395 at the local swap meet with the nice carrying case and a bunch of attachments for $20. If I blow it up, who cares.

I ordered little round mesh covers for my blowhole fan but you could surely cut out a round piece of mesh to do the job. Go for it ![]() Like this? (minus the blade grill): Quote:

For attaching the mesh what I did on *my* window (when I was thinking of using mesh
) was take the double sided tape and put it around the cut, then put the mesh on top of that. Make sure the mesh is firmly pushed against the tape, then I added a second piece of tape over the others to 'sandwich' the mesh in there. The bottom piece of tape holds to the panel, then the top piece serves to hold the mesh against the tape.

You mean your case didn't come with those? My X-plorer did. What I was talking about as far as the fan goes, is attaching a fan to the mesh somehow probably by drilling it out I'm assuming. I went to Home Depot and got some EZLock blades, an EZ Lock mandrel and some fiber wheels just in case. Also got some double sided (reed backed) mounting tape and some black window screen spline .180 x 25". For the sides, I will be painting the mesh the same bronze I painted the inside and I have a little trick up my sleeve for the actual panel itself. More later. Getting down to business.

My case did come with those fan grills but I replaced the top grill because it became dented. I was too lazy to cut my own lol.
As long as the mesh is ridgid enough, you shouldn't have any problem mounting fans directly to it.

Yeah, that stuff is pretty stout. The EZ Lock wheels are the way to go for me! I'm still on my first one and thanks to the tips you guys have given, I plan to finish one complete side worth of cutting. Here's a teaser of what I am attempting to pull off. I am going to spray the mesh the bronze that I did the inside with and put it behind the openings. Should really look sweet. While I wait for the dremel to cool off to the point that I can grab it and not get burnt, I am adding a pic of my working area. Now if I could just find the damn safety glases I bought yesterday.....
