Oh I gotcha. The backing youre mentioning was completely destroyed upon arrival to get the desk. it had evidently been left outside and warped and cracked.
Put on your sunglasses this is about to get bright!

I will be finishing off the prep work this evening getting ready for paint tomorrow. Mainly just need to tape the outside off since I sanded and washed the inside this morning after filing down the cuts I made yesterday. This is going to be badass.

Oooh! VERY nice. I think you are going to be redoing the outside too in place of black. Perhaps a dark blue for maximum contrast. As for CCFLs, if present, I think white is the way to go especially if you can hide the bulb so you see the light without seeing the source. That will really make it sparkle behind the grills.

Thank you! Thats what I thought the minute my eyes fell upon it. I said to myself, I HAVE to have that!" Moar pics tomorrow when I commence painting. As for the outside, I don't really want any colors that contrast the environment it is in (my desk/room) too much. I want it to look like it belongs in the area it is in. Which is why I am hesitant to repaint the outside. Perhaps I can get away with touching it up.

It was a beautiful evening after dinner and painting conditions were perfect so I went for gold - er, um, COPPER!

I think it's coming along wonderfully. Tomorrow i will disassemble the rest of the pieces (hard drive cage, optical bay, mobo tray and do them as well. I'm thinking of changing the name of the project. Any thinkers?

I also had a discussion with my wife this evening whilst painting. She thinks I should also paint the exposed mesh copper on the outside of the case to contrast the black. What do you guys think about that?

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the support. I can't wait for it to be finished either so I can use my computer again. I've been limping along on one of the other 5 computers in the house whilst doing the project. It has evolved into a lot more than I anticipated when I bought the case.

For a little more pop, I considered making the inside green and making copper colored tracers to simulate a PCB but WOW what a lot of work that would be.
