The 'milky' look is just the clear coat being thick in areas. All the clears I've used are like that. It clears up as/when it dries.

The color looks awesome though, seems like the clear had no ill effects on the color coat!

Moar color pics!
Decided against the black for the optical and PSU bays

What you didn't see.......

Unfortunately, I borked it when I decided to do this. I got too knife happy and dug into the paint. Hopefully, the copper will cover it up enough to at least not be obvious. After 2 more copper coats, I'm going to use a full can of clearcoat for those top surfaces to really try and fill it in.

Copper metallic plus black metallic... it is certainly living up to the Copper Top name! Maybe Duracell would like to give you a subsidy on the paint? I think it looks great with the clear coat; I say go for it!

I see you changed the thread title, but you forgot to also change your sig.

Blitz - Well it still is 10 lbs of **** in a 5 lb bag. Actually since I hacked into it, more likt a 3 lb bag.

CR - The whole thing is going to be wetsanded after a couple weeks goes by to let the paint fully cure. I don't know what that fuzz is. If you're standing here looking at it, it's pristine. The edges were ground down and sanded with the dremel. I don't know why you're seeing that. Again, if you're standing here looking at it, it's excellent.
I have a feeling I will be redoing the cage for the optical at some point. I just tried to peel the tape off so I can clear it all together and a wee little bit of paint tried to come up with the tape. Worst case, I'll spray some into the cap and brush it on with one of the wife's artist brushes.

HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM
Now I KNOW I have to completely redo the optical cage.
Just went back outside to check on it and saw this:

Don't mind the tape. Pay attention to the bubbles.
What happened here? I haven't changed anything with regard to my paint application.
It looked perfect with the black on there, now the copper appears to be bubbling up.
Looks like I'll be going to get some 80 grit.
Unless someone here has had that happen before and has a solution....

remember when the clear went milky? that means the paint underneath wast fully flashed out yet. How long did you wait to clear after you painted the copper?

Looks like you didn't give the black adequate time to cure and the fumes it's releasing from drying is causing your bubbling.

How long did you wait before putting the copper on?

Thats without clear bro. Didnt get that far. Right now at 3:37 PM PST, it's been flashing for about 20 mins. I have been doing it like this since the beginning.
Prime
Smoke a cigarette
Prime #2
Smoke a cigarette
Color coat 1
Smoke a cigarette
Color coat 2
Smoke a cigarette
and so on.......I usually let it flash 5-8 minutes between coats. That's how the HDD cage came out looking so nice this morning.
Could it possibly be because its so damn hot out?

This is probably the problem
Is there anything at this point I can do to salvage it or should I just sand it off and start over?
I was sort of in a hurry to get both black and copper on within 1 hour so I could clear them both simultaneously while it was still tacky.

so youre speed painting, thats good
easy on the smokes, even I dont smoke between each coat lol

maybe the direct sunlight isnt a good idea. When I paint in my garage near the door I make sure no sunlight is striking the parts to be painted. During the summer I had to close the door nearly all the way and crouch down on the floor and paint
