Talking [Completed] PlexiTechStation

Plexiglas + propane + spare parts = PlexiTechStation

I had this idea of taking a piece of 12” x 36” x ¼” Plexiglas, warming it until it bent and shaping it into a tech station. So, here it goes…

First I bought this motherboard tray and a piece of plexi.

Down to the basement to the cleanest, nonflammable surface… my washing machine.

Get prepared with a fire extinguisher. Safety first people!!

Propane torch go!

After a bit of warming (about 1 – 2 minutes) the plexi started to bend. With a wet bunch of paper towels I cooled the plexi until kept its shape.

More warming and I have the second bend (you can see what I am doing now). I used my basket of clothing pins to get the angle “right.”

After more cooling with wet paper towels, it will support weight.

I had a lot of plexi still that goes out the back so more warming and bent that piece up.

Added little feet too.

At the end of the day, this is what I got out of the project. I put felt feet of the power supply and the dvd drive so it wouldn’t scratch up the plexi.

I did add rubber feet to the bottom of the motherboard tray to help hold it in place and make sure that the motherboard supports don't scratch the plexi. More to come!

Still left:
Securing the motherboard tray somehow.
Drilling a hole for the power button.
Anything else I can think of…

Well hosting the pics was worth a try. Sorry about that!

Update!

Looks sweet! For mobo, I'd just use standard stand offs. Just get a tap and die set with something for 6/32 screws.
