Default [Plan] Xenantic

Hello all.

I am planning on starting up a new build soon. I made some designs of my plan, of what I want to do. It will be a Modular Case... Test Bench/Regular Case...

All of these pictures are to scale... Everything, the motherboard, fans, psu, hard drives, and the thickness of the acrylic are all exactly correct to scale.

This case will be made with .25" acrylic (the green accents will be .125"). It will be semi clear (the darker gray in the pictures will be clear with a gray tint, the light gray {top} will be clear, and the green will be semi clear acrylic with a green tint). It will have 4 separate and removable sections (pictures below).

The case will be 12.8" tall (326mm), 12.08" wide (307mm), 11.66" deep (296mm). (only 1.2ft more surface area than a mini ATX case! {mini 72.9ft, mine 74.1ft, mid 82.03ft)

(all of the fan holes in the pictures don't have the fan blades but are the correct thickness of a case fan {fan blades are to time consuming to make})

The colors ain't final yet.

Tell me what you think, I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. And I would be happy to answer any questions.

Lower piece. This is the area that will house the PSU, hard drives, and blue ray drive.
(front right)

(front left)

(rear right)

(rear left)

(front top down)

(rear top down)

(bottom view)

Upper piece with the lower piece attached. This upper piece will be exclusively for the motherboard, to allow easy access.
(front left)

(rear right)

(rear left)

The top piece, with the bottom two pieces. This will simply be a top for the whole thing, for when I want it to be a little more quit or have the pc components inside be a little bit safer. (possible fan on top, still undecided on that one)
(front right)

(front left)

(rear right)

(rear left)

These final pictures are showing the parts that can be separated from each other (to make it easier to access an area).
(front right)

(front left)

(rear right)

(rear left)

Red area is just the top for the whole thing.
Yellow area are the walls for the motherboard tray, they will be removable from the green area for when I need to swap parts on the fly.
Green area is the motherboard tray.
Blue area is the HD, PSU, and Blue Ray drive area.

All of the areas will essentially stack securely on top of one another. I plan to make quick wire disconnects for the fans in the yellow and red areas, so that they can be easily disconnected and re connected when I have to take off or put back on the Yellow and red areas. (possibly those larger headphone connectors)

The fan sizes. The Yellow area there will be four 120mm fans. The Blue area will have two 92mm fans in the hard drive area, and one 80mm fan for the psu and blue ray area.

Thats all that I can think of putting on here, if you have any questions/comments/suggestions feel free to post .

I dont know but for some reason i like this case, the only thing that bothers me is the lack of ventilation ontop of the case like my Ark case, but only that its ventilation all around this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Tpk=ark%206099 check out the 1st & 10th pic.For your case ill put some vents on top only because we all know heat rises & without vent on the top all the heat is gonna circle around the case looking for an escape.

Also in the rear right pic,it seems like the PSU is gonna be heating up the mobo, the 4 120mm is legit, seems like the blue area is going to have 3 92mms & not 2 unless 1 of the holes is an air flow hole? & the 80mm looks like its going on the red part (TOP) not by the PSU & blueray drive area (Bottom).i would add 3 more holes on top & add screens & use them for vents.(Red Area)

Looking good though just keep us up to date & you make progress.

looks like a very efficient design. I hope i can see it come through, it looks like it will have more than adequate cooling. depending on the power supply you use i can see a heat problem with it, say if you get a power supply with one 120mm on the top i can see how the there wouldn't be enough ventilation.

I didn't post a very good picture of the bottom, but the psu will be drawing air in from below the case, so it should keep it pretty cool.

Nope 2 92mm's in the hd area one in one out. and an 80mm in the psu/cd drive area...

(one 80mm and one 92mm in this pic)

and on the other side...

(one 92mm in this pic)

hmmm, not exactly sure what you are saying here, there is an 80mm hole in the red part in the pictures...

Thanks . Yeah I just got an offer on my truck earlier today, so once that sells I will have more than enough money for this project.

As for the PSU thing, I already have that its a Thermaltake ToughPower 750w... refer to the picture I posted above of the bottom of the case... (the psu will draw air completely separate of the case)

The new top is ok but a screen will always be better to go there, what ever you decide to do with the top just make sure you put a screen there.i understand the fan situation now but am still not sure about the PSU.

I know its getting air seperate from the whole case but (what if) its always a what if when doing something like this, what if the airs not flowing enough & the PSU gets kinda hot...just kinda hot.then the bottom part where the PSU is will be an "Oven" for the mobo dont you think.if the PSU gets a little to warm or hot then you do know heats rises & it will rise to warm up the mobo if you know what i mean?

Well the main reason I am trying to avoid putting a screen on the top is that I want to be able to set things on the top of the case.

What if instead of having that big hole on the top, I could just put a low speed 80mm fan and have it blowing out, that should be powerful enough to draw any hot air that is trapped up there out. Although I am not sure if it will disrupt the airflow across the four 120mm fans.

ah now I see what you are saying about the psu.. hmm Maybe I could put a row of small fans (like 40mm) above the psu like this..

I wonder if I just put a vent were the 40mm fans are, if the 80mm fan could do the job by itself though... I think it could...

I think the 4 40mm fans is a good idea for the PSU if the fans are facing out to blow the heat out the case.As for the top i would put a hole in the middle just so the fan wont mess with the airflow of the 4 120mms,thas the only idea i can come up with since you said that you want to use the top to put things on...this is not a dresser its a pc your building lol.

EDIT- NVM (Is the bottom half there tall enough to flip the psu on its side?
if so than an idea would be to have a vent or in this case a green plexy that's already in place. and have an 80mm to draw air thru instead of 4 40mm.
) i now see that the rom is in the way,

^^depending on if the 80mm pushes enough air, either way the vents will allow substantial ventalation.

I love the plexy at the top for vent.

Man... I wish I had your planning/designing skills.

The scaled plan will definately save you some face-palming.

Can't wait to see the fabrication begin.

hmm yeah the 40mm's might be a good idea, although I will have to check out the cfm's on the 80mm and see if it could handle it..

lol, well I am thinking like random tool, or headphones, or whatever, and not have to worry much about anything falling in.

lol Thanks, I kinda like it to..

haha.

Well it really isn't to hard, I will admit that I can't draw on paper for crap. All you really have to do is get the measurements for all the parts you are going to put in it, and then make a rough plan in paint or fireworks/photoshop. And then just put it together in Sketch up.

I am wishing that I had your acrylic knowledge. I tried my best to keep to design the case out of simple pieces while keeping it looking nice. I have never really done much with acrylic. I know I am going to need to by some cutting blades, I already have a rouge wheel and jewelers rouge so I am good there. I have never had any good success in scoring, so I am going to try and stay away from that.

What tools/ bits do you recommend I get?

Yeah knowone likes facepalming.

I am sure that you will know this, but were can I get tinted acrylic the cheapest? "Online Metals" has great prices on clear, but I don't think they sell tinted/colored acrylic, and I don't know were else to look.

Thanks, I can't wait either... Somebody needs to buy my darn truck so I can get this rolling.

**edit

Oh crap, I just figure out how to change the Opacity!!! Now I can actually make it look more like how it is supposed to !!

**Oh yeah, if anyone wants a truck, I can give them the "OCN Special" on the price
