I did that with the CCLFs to spread maximum light into the middle of the acrylic, if only they were not so thick.... I wonder if I can file down one of the sides so it'll get shorter.

What? The CCFLs? They are usually tubes with square caps on them. If you are careful not to damage the tube, you can likely modify the caps.

Hmmm... Might be a good idea.

A good idea as well, I'd have to find a lower profile tubing or something else to put the cathode in it, pretty much like you did on Silentium, you did change the CCFL tubing to put that colored film in it. How hard is it to remove the caps?

A gentle but persuasive twist will break the cap loose, then the CCFL element will be free of the pretective tube.

I left the CCFL in the tube for that mod (Silentium). The outer tube that I used is 1" dia so the square blocks on the end nest nicely.

If the RAM is too tall by only a few mm why not either file the RAM as low as you can go or file a groove into the DVD drive

Well, I wondered about that possiblity, that may save me a few dozen €. But I wonder if on the top left of the ram (Samsung sticker facing to you) there are any layered circuits. The RAM is only about 2 mm taller and wider (sorta) than it should.

As for fileing the DVD drive, I can't, I have no space.

Well, most that can happen from fileing the RAM and chopping off some circuitry is not booting, right? lol

I'll post a photo of a SAMSUNG Ram to show where I should have to file.

File the RAM if you absolutely don't need it. It may work it may not. I believe there are no traces up that high (but I could be wrong), just be careful to to pull the layered board apart. Use a very fine file and go slowly. Do you have any older RAM to practice on?
And if you did brick the RAM all it would do would be not boot.

Well, I'll give it a whirl. I just asked the price of the Low Profile RAM. I should have the answer soon. If it's not too expensive I'll buy it. I'll wait until friday.

But I do want to avoid ghetto modifications. I prefer it have it nice and clean if you know what I mean. Fileing the RAM is only as a ultimate last resort.
