But I think the distance that the heatsink stays from the CPU is something like 1mm, because when I placed the TIM on the CPU and placed the heatsink, some TIM got stuck on the HS when I removed it to see if it did make contact (as soon I saw the thermalpad I had figured this problem).
Maybe a few layers of aluminum foil?

That's the issue, I'll probably ask the seller. If only I could find exactly the size of the spacing... I can't go by the thermal pad's thickness, because it's noticable the thermal pad is pressurized from the heatsink, so the actual distance from it to the CPU cores is shorter than the normal thickness of the pad.

I think the best I can do is measure the pad on the borders and then "estimate" the real distance in the center...

Damn... it's literally the only flaw I found on this motherboard.

Doing a quick stability testing with everest resulted in core temps of 76 and 78C. It's quite high, but this CPU has a TJMax of 125C, and temps may get higher if I use Small FFTs or some benchmark runs.

Hmm....

That's a good idea, but I would probably need around 4 sheets... (considering the AS5's thickness)

Wouldn't it make it quite hard to have them lined up?

I think that shim should be fine. I have certainly seen it done before. I just remembered who, Pharoahspaw used it for his RAM in his double wide DD build. He sourced somewhere that could produce very thin shims of copper. Maybe if you PM him or have a look at his worklog he may tell you how to best measure the distance.

EDIT: Found the exact post here

Awesome!

He used 1mm thick shims there, but I'm not too worried... even if the shim I get is too thick, I can always spend some time "lapping" it to make it a few dozen µm thinner (If possible...)

But if my photographic memory doesn't fail me (Which usually doesn't) the thermal pad is 1mm thick and then after being squeezed on the CPU makes it thinner.

My thoughts are: To get the shim, cut it to size, then if needed, to lap it and then fix it with Arctic silver thermal adhesive (which I think it's the same as the Arctic Silver 5 but with the added adhesive).

Imo I think it should work out way better than the cruddy pad...

I wouldn't use the adhesive for warranty reasons. The clamping pressure coupled with the built in stickyness/air tight fit of regular AS5 should mean it shouldn't move around. And thermal adhesive isn't quite as heat conductive as AS5 AFAIK.

Oh I almost forgot the warranty! lol Thanks for the heads up.

Hmm... Then the AS adhesive is out of the question...
