Default [Project] Black N Blue Baby (Antec Nine Hundred)

I'm starting my first Case mod. I'll keep it simple for now and post pictures as I make the changes. I will eventually make some Youtube video's when time and progress warrants the need. I am open to any idea's and may change my plans as the project moves on, as it is a work in progress.

Some of the modifications will include but not be limited to just the following examples.
  • Cutting Holes
  • Electrical Mods
  • Filter Mods
  • Lighting Mods
  • Painting Mods
  • Water Coolling
  • Wire management Mods
I plan to Cut a hole in the bottom of the chassis for my PSU air intake & make an extension to the bottom of the chassis to house all of the water-cooling. The lower chassis extention will house the water tank, pump, radiator & 2nd power supply and any thing else I think of. The 2nd power supply will be used to power the water-cooling, system Fans and any thing else that finds it's place hooked up to it.

I'd like both power supplies to turn on simotaniously when I boot the system by using some type of cable like This. Hopefully by using a 2nd power supply I can eliminate some of the systems internal heat while reducing the strain on the primary power supply with little to no power loss in the primary power supply for when I have multiple GPU's and a heafty overclock on the entire system.

My plans for case lighting in BNBB "Black N Blue Baby" is to utilize the ability to turn the case lights on and off by using my homes flip switch on the wall to illuminate the case and the room it occupies. BNBB’s lights will be completely separate from BNBB’s Primary PSU. I plan to be able to use it like a night light and will also have a switch on the chassis just in case I need to use the same wall socket for another room light. This will be an on going project and I plan to continue making improvements for the duration of this project.

Default Day 1

I plan on cutting a hole in the bottom of the chassis. this will supply fresh air from outside the chassis to the Primary Power Supply.

I also plan on cutting a hole on the motherboard tray side of the case to neatly tuck the wires behind the mobo tray for better air flow and aesthetics. notice what I'm using for a hole template. Zalman fan spd control unit.

And finally I taped off the iside of the chassis to try and prevent small metal chips from entering the chassis when I make my intake hole cuts. see.

I decided to tape off the rest of the chassis before making any cuts.

My first Dremel cut ever. Kind of rough but I can clean it up later.

I put the brakes on the cutting till I can get the right Dremel bit, cause this one is all over the place, over heating and getting dull from this first cut.

Decided to call it a day. Thanks for looking

Default Day 2

I managed to pick up a metal cutting bit for the dremel so I can continue my Hole cutting voyage. Cutting free hand with a dremel in no easy task as you can see by the rough cuts have a look.

This is how it looks after I finished the cutting and filing. Not to bad for a free hand hack job. No one will ever see it any way. Now I need to figure out what kind of filter's I want to use. I was thinking of using one of my house air conditioner intake filters. Probably wont look good but if it works good and is cheap, then I'm all for it

Next up, Power-Supply-Cable-Thru-Hole-Cut-Out-Hack-Job. I started out by tracing a line around the Zalman fan spd control seen in yesterdays work here.

I wanted to make sure the cables would be able to bend enough for the hole. See my average power supply I gotta do something about those loose cables it's un-sightly.

I decided to decrease the whole's diameter so that the 24 pin plug would just fit.

I'm thinking about puting another 120mm fan up there on the right side. next to the power supply on the floor board of the chassis. Have not figured out how I'll use it yet. maybe have it vent heat from the video cards or vent heat from the hard drives. Well it's a work in progress. Any ideas are more then welcom. Below I drilled 4 holes from the inside to transfer the dimentions on the outside of the chassis where I will be performing the cuts. Please bear with me, I'm not an expert Crasftsman or Fabricator by trade "I'm sure you can tell by now" so my work may be a little, um well a lot un-even.

Here I used a flat edge ruler to draw my cut lines from the outside of each of the 4 holes but I forgot to take pics before I moved on to setting up my make shift dremel straight line cutting edge gate thinginy mabob. lol like I said I'm learning as I go on the fly.

My idea was to use the straight edge ruler for a dremel guid. This is what it looks like with the dremel on the straight edge.

My 1st cut

2nd cut

3rd cut.

and my 4th and final cut. The straight edge did not work as good as I would have prefered. So I decided to show you the finished cut after filing. sorry the inside pic is a little blurry

and this is the out side not as blurry.

Power supply resting in it's new position with the cables going thru the chassis. yeah

this is what it looks like on the back side of the mobo tray.

and this is what it looks like when the cables come back into the chassis from behind the mobo tray.

Well that's it for today. Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for looking.

good work so far, keep it up

have you tried using a reinforced cutting disk (for metal) on your dremel? Its easy to cut straight lines with it, and it would be quicker than having to deal with moving the make-shift fence around (which was a nice idea by the way ). At some point youll need to cut somewhere where you can't use a fence so you might as well get some practice before that, even if its on scrap pieces (just my 2 cents from having done a lot of case cutting with a dremel)

Thanks. I'm not sure what a reinforced cutting disk is. Would that be the little flat washer type cutting disk and is used free hand?

Looks good so far N2Gaming. I am curious why you left the crosspieces on the cutout rather than making it completely open. The completely open may be quieter due to less turbidity, not to mention it would have been less cutting.

I am going to be lurking around to see what you do with it.

My idea for leaving the cross section was for chassis support. I did not want to cut out the whole circle and then have the weight of the chassis bend the feet up and inwards towards the power supply. After the hack job I thought it would look better if I just cut out the cross section. Still contemplating. Yeah it would have been a lot less work not to mention all the splinters from filing.
