Default [Finished Project] Bondo'd hinges for Syrillian's Silentium

I'm sure most of you will be coming here from Syr's thread and already know the purpose of this project - for those who come here otherwise, here's the deal. Syrillian's build - Silentium-Arcane-Arts encompasses alot of design aspects, one of which is a hinged front door.

The hinges he selected worked with the theme early on, but now with the final buildup, seem to 'stick out'. They are overly ornate and Syrillian would like them 'smooth'. The bolt pattern is rather unique to these hinges so getting a seperate 'smooth' set was out of the question. I am here to help a friend and bondo his hinges so they are smooth. This should be, no longer than, a 1-2 week project. Hopefully more a one week, lol. Enjoy the work and please go check out Syrillian's work if you have not done so. He's one of the gem's here on OCN.

Ok, so work begins today (Nov 9)

Box of hinges and bondo supplies on the table.

Oh Syrillian...: lmao!

All the bubble wrap you get with a Syrillian package!

Getting there!

There they are! (Syrillian, they really are hard to photo, and I thought it was just you )

The money shot, get a good look, they won't look like this any more!

The middle pin is removable, this made it so much easier for me later on.

Soft sanding pad by 3M. Get some! (iirc, this is equivalent to 1000grit sandpaper) I used this initially to get in the in-lay work, eventually I just used sandpaper as this pad was of a finer grit than I needed.

Close, but no cigar

Folded a piece of 220grit (?, maybe 320?)

Got into those tight spots (that's what she said :P )

Before/after. Ready for some bondo.

I was worried these in-lays on the round/center of the hinge would be an issue. Afterwards, they didn't give me as much trouble as I thought.

Size comparison shot of how much bondo/hardener I used for this coat.

Getting there! (I used a small stick to poke out the mounting holes)

Looking better with some sanding. It will need a second coat, but I knew it would before I started. The first coat looks really good, I'm happy with it already!

Those centers are shaping up well too.

All four in varying stages of completion.

Are you sure these will compliment Syr's case? o.0

I'm kidding, there's no way you can fail that hard.
