Hi Folks,
I would like to share my experience when it came to modding my CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000 Case to improve my GPU cooling in SLI. While I love the good looks, roominess and tooless features of the Cosmos 1000, most reviews quibbled about it's lack luster cooling around the Hard Drive bay. I had already solved this problem by removing the bottom case 120mm fan and placing it directly on top of the HD bay. I replaced the bottom 120mm fan with the 120mm fan at the back of the case and purchased a CoolerMaster 120mm Led Blue Silent Fan (TLF-S12-EB) and placed it at the back of the case where the blue hues could be appreciated. Although I have RivaTuner moderating my GPU temps by incorporating three fan profile speeds, as the temps increase while playing 3D intensive games, I also exercised additional caution by removing my side case panel. Since I was getting tired of removing the side panel every time I gamed, I decided to mod the side panel to enable ventilation by placing a newly purchased CoolerMaster 120mm Led Blue Silent Fan (TLF-S12-EB) to directly exhaust the heat generated by the GPUs. I've added five pictures (below) to demonstrate my progression. As you can see in Picture #1, I took a piece of paper (size of the CoolerMaster 120mm fan) and punctured the fan screw holes directly in the paper. Then I traced a grid with each square measuring 5,6 mm (7/32") the circumference of the Titanium Drill Bit. I traced an X in each square for centering. I then predrilled with a smaller Drill Bit (to prevent slippage) before I used the 5.6mm Titanium Drill Bit to drill all the required holes. In Picture #2, you can see that all the holes have been drilled, the schemata had been removed and the metal shavings have been cleaned from in and around the holes. In Picture #3, you can see the back side of the panel, where in my case, I had to remove some of the sound proofing material prior to drilling. Picture #4, showcases the Fan screwed onto the case. Picture #5, the Fan is now in operation!

Thanks! I was worried that the drill holes would look like a product of a bullet tear, but thankfully, the holes drilled with the Titanium bit were clean. I had to make sure that the bit went all the way through to its smooth shaft and it helped create the clean look.

I bet it's a pain plugging that fan in and removing the side panel once it is plugged in, I did the same thing just to see how much it improved my temps a while back on a botched window mod, anyway the wire is a bit short to plug it into your mobo huh? Used to be frustrating.

Thanks GeforceGTS!
I thought about that when I went to plug the new fan into the MOBO and decided to forgo the predictable frustration one could suffer if one plugged it directly into the MOBO. I reached for the included 3 to 4 pin adapter that came with the new 120mm CoolerMaster fan, which not only acted as an extender to the fan wire but now I could connect it to the power supply cables. In that manner, I can open the side panel without worrying about accidentally pulling the fan from the MOBO and possibly damaging the MOBO/fan.

Thanks Auld! Interesting enough, CoolerMaster thought enough about this problem and in the Cosmos S revision, they placed a factory side intake fan on the case.
So anyone with the Cosmos 1000 should consider this mod, since even CoolerMaster themselves tried to fix this shortcoming.
