Unlucky man, but it will still look kick ass! Don't let it dampen your spirits, you did DAM well to get that far with it!

damn...that sucks about the 5th cutout. I'd be very disappointed as well. It still looks fantastic. If you just fixed the acrylic and made it smooth it'd look fine with the metal thing over it. Still looks great. I wish I had your skills...

Gah. I should have bought that mill on craigslist a while back. I was trying to cut out a new grill but my router bit was too dull. It grabbed one of the cross braces, bent it and cut it up a little. Before I try to make another one I guess I need to buy some new bits. I guess that's what I get for using the router for something it wasn't designed to do. By the time I buy more bits I could probably just buy a rad grill and be done with it. So frustrating sometimes.

While I thought about the grill I made up some new patches for the front.

The one covering the large opening is actually two riveted together so it sits flush with the front. Hopefully with it all painted up you won't be able to tell it's not a solid front. I may have to do some bondoing.

Then I thought f%@* it.

I'm deciding between two different layer orders.

or

#2 is my pick. I'll have to cut back some of the case and trim the mesh to fit there. So it will go fan>case+mesh>acrylic>grill. You shouldn't see the case layer at all.

Tomorrow (hopefully) will be the rear fan grill and then I'm not sure what. I need to make up a to do list.

-finish fan grills
-door mounting hardware
-8-pin cpu routing hole
-cut out holes for dvd drive and fan controller
-make secondary I/O panel
-cut slots for ccfls in acrylic
-sleeve cables
-paint
-buff out scratches in acrylic, smooth some of the uneven parts on the bends

Hmm... can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

If you weren't trimming the acrylic, I would choose #1. But you are, and seeing what you did with the side window and the front panel piece, I'm sure it'll come out amazing.

#2 but something about that large drop from the "grille" to the mesh doesn't sit well with me. I'm not quite sure why, but I was thinking maybe another sheet of mesh on top or glass or I don't know. Maybe even a fan grille like you originally had with the mesh at case level.

But of those two choices, I think it is neat seeing the orange on #2.
