Default [Project] hiiyah777's murderMod Worklog

Okay, it's been a long time coming, and I've finally gotten around to posting my worklog. Part of me kept wanting to wait until I was far enough along to put stuff in, and part of me kept procrastinating. I finally figured I'd just go ahead and start the log, and post updates as I have them. So here goes.

First I'll start with

The Vision:

I looked everywhere for "the perfect case", and I couldn't seem to settle for anything. I wanted a Lian Li, but I couldn't find one that had every single feature that I felt I needed without modding it in. And I couldn't justify to myself to purchase a case for $300+ only to hack it and make it my own. Plus I don't trust myself with those kinds of tools, so I figured anything I laid my hands on would come out looking shabby. I'm just not very gifted in that area and I am pretty impatient at times.

One day I stumbled across http://www.murderbox.com/ and absolutely fell in love. It was everything I wanted and more! The case was sleek, clean, inverted ATX, divided top and bottom, and on top of that is was simply badass!

I sent Charles an email from the site, basically telling him how much I admired his work and how much I wish I could buy just the case from him and put in my own parts. Charles surprised me the next day with a reply, and I was also surprised at how much of a gentleman he is.

Charles started to tell me that he had been contemplating offering the case as a mod alone, and I got excited. We talked for months, and finally (to make a long story a little shorter), he launched http//:www.murdermod.com/. My case actually arrived before the launch, but Charles asked me to hold off on the pics until the official launch of the site. Which worked out, since I'm not actually showing them until now, lol.

On to the pictures:

These are some pictures that Charles took before he sent the case to me, and I felt the need to include them just to preserve the artisitic value behind this work. There's no way my pictures are going to turn out as beautifully as his, but I will still do my best.

Here's a shot of the empty inside.

The front.

Zoomed out some.

Charles added this nifty little fan for me since I'm air-cooling. If/when I finally decide to water-cool, this fan is easily removed.

At the moment, I'm contemplating removing it just because the position itself doesn't seem very symmetrical or compatible with the TRUE. It really helps bring in some of the cool air from the bottom compartment, but I'm hoping I won't experience too drastic of a temperature increase. The ideal position for this fan would be a little more to the back of the case, but unfortunately due to the PSU needing that space, it's as far back as it can go.

Zoomed out.

The next post will be reserved for an update index, and the following post will be my first actual update post.

I hope you enjoy this log!!!!

Default Update: It's Arrived!!!

It showed up at my front door on Sep 22, 2008. Yes, I've had it a long time, lol.

He somehow managed to pack it into the original box, although I've heard him mention that he uses his own custom packaging now.

Look at the attention to detail!!!

Uber-packaging to ensure no damage.

A nice little touch. I was lucky enough to be the second owner of a murderMod TJ07, and the first in North America. That's quite a bragging right, if you ask me!

In all it's naked beauty.

If you'll notice in the last picture in the first post, I originally ordered it with the sealed back plate. But he started doing this awesome mod to the backplate, and of course I had to have it! It just flows so well.

The epitomy of perfection.

What a name!

So are these pre made cases that he mods, or are they built from scratch?

He mods TJ07's for now. But he's soon to be moving to other things, like Lian Li. He's been wanting to do them from scratch, but he want's to ensure that his work thus far is successful. But since he's just a boutique shop owner, he has to pay the same full retail price as you and I, and therefore it bumps up the prices drastically.

Stay tuned, I'm working on my next 2 or 3 updates. Next is going to be outlining the parts and hardware to be used, followed by current status.
