I just got my UD3R in the mail and pried the blue covers off the NB cooler last night. It was a LOT more trouble than I thought it would be. Gigabyte is not using two-sided tape anymore. The covers were glued on with thick globs of this horrid goo that was a nightmare to clean off. Besides being unsightly, the stuff is as sticky as dried maple syrup and would be a terrible dust magnet, so I felt obliged to clean it off. I had to remove the cooler from the mobo and spend 2 hours scrubbing with isopropyl and picking little chunks of goo out of the fins with tweezers. The stock TIM didn't comes off so easily either. It was some sort of hard parafin that took some elbow grease to strip off. Eventually I got it off and put on some Arctic Ceramique which is doing a very good job. This was not what I would consider a very quick or easy mod. In retrospect I think the best method would have been to soak the fins in isopropyl for an hour or two before trying to clean them.

Well I'm sure you will be pleased with the out come. The harder the job, the more you will appreciate the work.

@ Lucas, wow man, I'm sorry to hear that. That seems dumb that they would use glue now instead of the tape. O_o

Nice work on this one.

What kind of paint did you use on the front bezel if you don't mind me asking... I'm taking on some painting my self atm and am using a spray can of Rust Oleum Black Satin Finish ...

I could not help but to notice your hands did seem to suffer from paint overspray a bit. I try to use latex gloves If I remeber to put them on.

Oh yeah Your OCN ghetto chain is foshezy and breezy.

Thanks man! IIRC the paint was Rustoleum Flat Black. Rustoleum is my brand of choice for rattle can paints.

And lol, yea, my hands get it sometimes. Some of that you see is dust from sanding, some is paint overspray. I like to get messy

Thanks for your answer. Did you do any wet sanding to smooth out the paint after it dried or did you just lay down some perfect coats of paint not requiring sanding?

I never wet sand, lol. If you can get even coats pretty well on the case, the paint lays down smooth enough to look great without it. I would only wetsand if I was using a lot of clear coat and wanted a very slick finish. I just layed down 5-6 semi-'wet' coats of the flat black and called it done. I was lucky enough to not get any hairs or bugs in my coats.

Well I tried to paint on a nice day of about 82-87F outside but it was a little breezy so I ended up w/little dusties or specles of unwanted particles. I guess I'll have to clean out my garage and remove the boat so that I can paint in the garage away from the outside elements... I think I'm gonna have to wet sand a bit and redo the finish coats.

Thanks again.
