Some of you may be familiar with this video: If not, you may have at least played Portal and know what the turret looks like. Here's a couple pictures: Quote:
Like I said, it's an idea. I'm taking a little break from case modding for a while for school, but I just wanted to get the idea out there to see what you guys think. AFAIK, it hasn't been done, and if I do this right, I'm sure it'll get some good recognition (and maybe even beat a pro ) Also, as my P:ATE case took about 2 months, this one will take longer. I really want to take my time and treat this as more of a project on the back burner, something to do in my spare spare time.If you have any ideas towards it, any parts I should use or consider, techniques, etc., gimme a shout. I have a feeling that this is gonna turn into my first WC cooling system and I'm definitely gonna need help with that.

Make it so that if you want to open it up to gain access to the inside of the computer you have to move your hand in front of it so that the sides pop out (hydraulically?) exposing the guns
![]() If you want them static maybe you could put in a water cooling loop with two rads, mod them to look like guns and stick them in the sides! I don't know how big you want it to be, but you could probably take the shell of a mid tower case and just build around it to form the elliptical body.

Is there a place where I can just buy the motherboard tray, and not the whole case? This is obviously gonna be a custom case and saving myself drilling the holes for a mobo and measuring out for the I/O slots would be a great time saver.

Here is a motherboard tray that may work well for your needs.
I used one of these in my last project; I drilled the rivets out so that I could use only the I/O and PCI bracket plate.

nice idea! i also think that the sides should come out.. the guns would could be your ODD and HDD on the sides and the mobo in the middle. that would be awesome.

Indeed, Free is so much better.
Time to do some dumpster-diving. Many a treasure and diamonds in the rough can be found this way.

![]() Right now, I'm thinking i'll have to try my skill at making molds. Sure, make a part out of foam, but then make a mold around that, cast with liquid plastic, and pop out. That way I can make one leg and replicate it three times. The reidbar connected the legs to the main body seems like my real only option because of it's rigidity and I could probably get some for free. This will probably be a clean mod, which will probably be tough for me. I'll probably use bondo along with spackle. I want this to be a solid machine, and it needs to be if to support the weight of the computer. I got a B+ in ENGR 211: Statics, so hopefully that'll help me with the math of figuring out how to keep this case stable. Boy, it would sure make an awesome junior year project for engineering. I'll have to make friends with some EE's and ECE's and maybe try joining the robotics club. lol I'd laugh if the military came to me asking for support. "Where did you get the idea?" ...Especially since mine WON'T be made out of foam. ![]() EDIT: Took some screens of turrets in motion: ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks like the theme will be white and black with red lights. That shouldn't be too hard.

This will be a cool project. I look forward to seeing more of it develop. Those legs look tricky. I like the idea of rads on the outside shell parts mocked up to look like guns!
