Default [Amateur] nckid4u's cosmic pleasure

Here is my stock rig. Just kinda stuffed my hardware in there when I first got it knowing that changes were coming soon...

Cable management was not even considered at this point

Not the prettiest thing you've ever seen...

My first mod was to my Rheobus Extreme fan controller. Wanted to get rid of the lights and make it match the design of the case better. I had seen another member do this on here and liked the concept

Tore it apart...
I also removed the clear plastic cover on the very front of the controller. (not shown here...) sorry

I took the mesh I removed from the case and fit it over the front plate of the fan controller

Used some of my wife's crafting paint to mark the holes for the controller knobs and the screw holes to mount the mesh to the front plate of the controller

Looked like this after marking

Here are those annoying led lights that shine though the knobs as you turn up the fans.

Clipped them off right at the pcb. Thought about removing them with the soldering gun, but I know I will never put them back on and the leads on the leds are really long, so I can use them for something else with no problems

Got the holes cut and everything went back together very nicely. I ditched the little allen key screws that held the clear plastic cover on the controller and used some nice phillips screws instead.

Decided to try to mesh everything in the front of the case. I loved the clean look of the fan controller, so I tried to figure out how to do my DVD drive too.

Found an old drive cover door from a Raidmax case I had once and thought hmmmm.....

Cheap plastic design. Not much to it

I cut another piece of mesh and drilled out the hole for the button that opens the drive door. I also realized I needed to extend the button itself once I added the mesh to the front of the cover. You would not have been able to push the button otherwise.

I also realized during my mockup that I would need to move my dvd drive back a little bit. I marked the location of the new hole on the case.

The other side of the case also needed new holes drilled

Here the drive is mounted back approx 3/8" from its original mount. You can see the screws in the new holes.

I epoxied the mesh to the plastic cover

I also cut the brackets off the original mesh blank (the one that covers the unused holes in the front of your case.
I epoxied those to the other piece of the door cover mechanism so it will stay in place and not fall out of the case when you open the dvd drive door.

I used another bit of my wife's crafting stuff here. A little bead too extend the button mechanism.

Had to dremel off a little of the mesh so it wouldn't catch on the device above and below it.

Painted it up, stuck it together and "click", it locked into the case like it was made to be there. I love the clean look of everything in mesh...

Here is the front of the case now.

The DVD drive works perfectly. Here you can see the mesh door under the DVD drawer.

Next, I wanted to get rid of the led light in the fan on the front. I decided to replace it with a Yate Loon. Bought 5 of them to have everything match.

I also made a couple of "L" brackets to mount a second fan on the front of the case

Here you can see the fan mounted in the top bays above the hard drive cage

Here are both fans on the front of the case

Two more in the top and one in the back makes 5 Yate Loons altogether

I also added a Silenx 80X15mm fan to the back side of the motherboard tray. Oh and I actually got around to working on cable management

Much cleaner now...

Paint to come when the cold weather breaks. Building not heated...

Part 2 Painting begins

Getting ready to paint my case panel. Had to sand it and paint it gloss white before I could start. Haven't done one of these paintings all winter. Hope I don't mess it up. You only get one shot at this...

My supplies. I also use magazine paper, some round things like coffee can lids, paint lids, etc. I use a guitar pic to make the tree trunks and sponge to paint the leaves...

I do license plates and full size paintings as well 22" x 28"

I tried to video tape me doing this, but managed to screw it up. Here are the after pics. Drying on the front step. Total time spent painting = 16 minutes...

Here is a video of how this is done. This is not me, but it gives you an idea of how this was created.

Another pic of drying

And one more...

Here it is on the case.

I gotta say - that is possibly the most underestimated mods. You should go for a section or two higher next time. That side panel is BEAUTIFUL!

Edit: You certainly underestimated yourself here

This should be in intermediate, this is really beautifully painted!
Should've carried the design on around the whole case.

Awesome side panel. Not so sure i like the look of the epoxy behind that stealth'd dvd drive, but maybe it looks better IRL.

Once again, awesome side panel though.
