Default [Completed] Greenie-poo (Mini ITX - Acrylic build from scratch)

Greenie-poo by CattleRustler - February 2009(quicklinks/TOC in second post)
1st Place February/March 2009 MOTM

current design (changes and evolves as thread progresses)

Hey guys, I'm back with a new mod. This will be a custom case from scratch using 1/4" cast acrylic in transparent green and solid black. You're probably wondering "what the f" with the name Its another case mod for my daughter Jessie. Since Gumdrop is at the "other house" and my daughter is getting older, she needs something decent to use and learn on when she stays with her daddio on weekends, hence Greenie_poo Its a play on her nickname ("beanie-poo", from "bean" lol) I asked her what color computer she wants for daddy's house and without hesitation she said green! So green it is. The name jumped on me a few days ago when I was calling her beanie-poo haha.

Welcome to Project Greenie_poo. I plan to make this a quick mod (2-3 weeks tops) and I am using this opportunity to learn how to make a case a)fully from scratch, and b) completely out of acrylic. I spent today in 3DStudio Max 9 modelling the idea. I had trouble with the transparent materials so the pic above is a bit misleading (I will replace it when I figure out the transparency issue) The basic design so far is basically an acrylic box with transparent green side panels, and black top bottom back and front, with green accents on the front around the switches. The lower green circle in the pic will actually be a 3" opening for an 80mm intake fan (green led) There will be the same fan on top and in back. See the first worklog below for more details.

Greenie_poo - Design

messed around in 3dsmax9 with the basic idea: fans in blue (80mm green led), mobo (red), psu (grey), hdd (yellow) (items are to scale) The green panel is 14.5" tall x 14" deep

started to mock in the black panels (1/4" cast acrylic)

I plan to screw the parts together, not use ips weld on to join them permanently. the green cubes are 1/2" that will be drilled and tapped for 6-32 black oxide screws, they will act as panel anchors. the cubes will be ips welded to the black panels

feet from same 1/4" acrylic, using 2x sandwiches, 1" circles

green disks inside case (back. top) are place holders for fan openings, as well as the lower front one. The upper two on front are going to house switches an led's

lets fit the parts...

mobo, psu, and hdd (omitted blue fan boxes as the desing is self-evident)

the left and right panels will be transparent green, pictured opaque here however

the design may change as the project evolves. all input welcome
thanks for watching
