Red off:

This is my first case mod here fellas, so take it easy on me! I have to give credit to CattleRustler for the ideas AND Smokie for the inspiration.....(an aluminum case from scratch got me thinking that I could prolly do this too.)

Well, she is naked. Getting it prepped to take to work with me.

The plan is to hide as many wires as I can.

I need to get rid of all the sharp edges, and cut all the fan holes out to match them....

I am hiding this channel here with some aluminum from work.

Backside of said channel.....

Another backside shot of the channel.....

Guts. They are waiting for their house back.

The desk is a mess.....LOL. That's what happens when it is a workbench too.

Plastic case pieces.....and my air tank hidden in the corner.

More mess. I painted all of my fans UV reactive Blue last weekend.

You like my Headcrab dontchya?

A proper work space.

Dremel station is getting set up. Thankfully my line ran excellent, so I could get my project done.

Mocking up for the rivets.......

Riveted. It is turning out better than I thought it would.

I added some 7/8ths grommets for the disk drive sata/power cables to pass thru....

A couple over here too, for the MB connections and fans.....

The aluminum stock I used is gold colored on the backside. I can live with it. Plus it shows some good contrast for pictures.....

A close up of the top notch......

working on second notch.......

Notches are done......

Ugly hole. More 7/8ths grommets for bottom fan wires.

Close up.

Better hole. (hey at least it's almost round!)

much better looking and freer flowing.

New holes look massive compared to stock. I am using the new Scythe Maru. They are 140mm fans that bolt up to 120mm cut-outs.

Rear fan hole is looking much better also....

Nice.

My "custom" tool box at work. I have had this box since 1996. My old man bought it for me when I went to college...

Ramsey77 is editing his post and hopes to have it up soon, thanks for your patience.

(this was not a WorklogCreator software issue, for the record )

Back home and getting put back together....

Cleaner inside.

The blue tape is to keep the bottom fan from recycling warm case air. It only pulls fresh air from the bottom now.....

I could not find any "C" channel for my holes so I am reusing the plastic that came with her. It's ugly as sin, but it works for now.

SEND ME SOME "C" CHANNEL!! LOL

Ve Vant the case mod, Lebowski. The dude abides.

MB safe at home now. Whew.

Top left holes for MB connections and top fans.

you can't see me.

Coming together nicely.

Fan fits nicely now.....

Sneaking the fan cable down to headers.

At this point I am thinking "Is this gonna work"......I'm starting to sweat a little.

Ah, much better. Got my buddy Sam to stop by.....

Working the wires around.....

More wires....more wires.....more wires.........more wires......MORE WIRES.....where the hell did all these wires come from??????

Mr GTX is home.

How do you like it now???

Fan controller wires, and Temperature probes. This area was a rat's nest. The main reason for this little mod.

Getting it all wrapped up.

She is done. Edit: No it's not.

Finally done. (for now) All in all, i worked for 18 hours straight on this.....

And Yes, the door shuts!!

Go Cubbies!

Final pics in UV:

Although the blue CCFL's make it a nice night light.

Looking thru the mesh on top to the big 140's. These are actually glowing bright blue, as those are two CCFL UV lights attached to the hood.

Enjoy,

2-13-09 Updates:

I love my Dremel!! I want to cover the HD bays to make it look finished, but I didn't want to choke the air from the fans blowing on the drives...so some more modding was in order... I am pleased again how these turned out. The original hardware holds the mesh in place. I also cut the back out of them to allow more air thru...I was expecting them to turn into a flimsy mess, but they aren't too bad. They are also still fully functioning, which is nice. I am gonna be making covers for the fans too....but that is an update for tomorrow.

The next victims to the deadly wrath of the beast known as Dremel.

Got my other Sata drive today:

A pic of just the black light making my top fans glow like crazy....pics don't do it justice...it looks wicked cool at night with the lights off:

2-14-09 Updates:

I dug this mesh out of the scrap bin at work. It used to be a cylinder that had an air filter element surrounding it.... Freebie!

They are all getting modded today....

Done and Installed:

.....and now for something a little different. I wanted my light switch more accessible, so i devised a plan to use existing hardware. Namely the 3.5 inch convertible drive bay cover. I stared at this thing for 2 hours trying to make it work as easy as possible. I finally figured it out....it turned out pretty good:

First you have to take the bracket the switch comes mounted on and make it flat (I have no picture of this. Everyone knows what I'm talking about, I'm sure).

Then you will want to slit the cover so you can slide the bracket into it:

Then you are gonna pic out which holes need made bigger for the screws to pass through, and which ones will have to be removed for the switch:

I used this tool here for the removal:

I painted the bracket black so you couldn't see it as well through the mesh (although in this shot it's not painted yet). This little cover piece will go in backwards from stock:

Installed:

I love this little file for those hard to reach areas. Namely that cut out for the light switch LOL:

February 15th Updates:

I added all my light switches to the front panel today at work:

HDD cages looking almost white in UV:

This little guy is hiding:

Updates February 16th:

"C" channel arrived today from McMaster Carr. I used it to tidy up my fan holes. I wish I would have had it when I cut my slots for my MB wires, as they are too narrow to allow this stuff to follow the inside radius....It just doesn't look right.....If anyone can point me to something better looking than the white plastic, I would appreciate it.

The mounting tabs kind of got in the way of the forward most fan, so I improvised....

I like how you covered those old holes. It looks so much better when the wires barely show at all. However, I would sleeve your fan cables, or at least the rear exhaust one, because you see that cable creep down the side

I really like how you organized the cables behind the mobo tray also. Good job!
