why do you need it so huge? just curious... you could put a small child in a 24x24x12 box
Thanks for the compliments man! Why do I want it so big you ask? I want it to have a "presence", if you know what I mean. Plus, there are some water cooling tricks up my sleeve after all is said and done.....it's gonna be a fun ride man, I promise.

Thanks man. I am literally jumping out of my skin to get started on this build. I loved to play with Construx and Legos as a kid (anyone remember those?).....this is like the set for "BIG" kids....lol

Am I the FIRST one to offer up hand drawn blueprints?? That's funny if it's so.....You guys know pencil's and paper still work right?? LOL just teasing, but it IS super easy to do. I had to get the ideas out of my head somehow.

You said you ordered the aluminum, but I noticed a "1/8" maybe?" in your sketches.

I will tell you that 1/8 inch thick aluminum is not sheet. That's plate. I've got a 12X24 inch lot of it here, and I can barely flex it while holding the short ends of it and using my knee as a fulcrum at the apex. Heavy duty stuff, and maybe heavier than your mind's eye is envisioning. It's certainly overkill for anything in a computer case, particularly for a panel, and especially for a panel that's well braced (as yours appears to be).
Im a welder, and work with sheet and plate metal, steel, "aluminum, carbon, and stainless" everyday, and we get SHEETS of aluminum all the way up to 1/2" thick.

another example of frame:

This is bigger than the stuff I am using.

Put together, strong, and square. I'm gonna use it as a jig for drilling the access holes for the allen heads.

You can actually see some other stuff working as legs for my Cosmos.

There is nothing wrong with overkill, in fact, I personally am a big fan of it. I am going to be paying close attention to this one; if your mind's eye works like mine does, I will be commissioning you for one once I get a job.

Default My First Father's Day LOOT!

Man, am I a happy camper tonight! Got my drill (and excuse to get my garage shop cleaned from the winter neglect) and got it set up. Pics here of my shop/vacation spot. Haha.

She is a heavy mother:

Well, I was a little apprehensive about opening the switch panel, considering what CR found:

BONUS! The 1 eyed, no thumbs QC guy did a fine job on mine....

Spindle is square from the factory:

Headstock is also square:

Floor/Table/Drill Pedestal are level: (extra happy about that)

Jig worked out nicely on pedestal mounts (got it squared with the table/spindle, ready to drill holes centered in 1" stock):

I will never trust a laser for my holes....I always center punch and touch down first:

Some shop pron:

Air Pig and Miter Saw:

This build log brought to you by Sammy:

Where the magic happens....LOL

I figure someone would eventually ask about the axe. I made it out of a motorcycle disc brake and some scrap from work about 10 years ago. Yes it's very sharp and in no way a toy. It will hurt. Badly. (remarkably, it has never rusted. This is Iowa, after all.)

My Toy and a bigass American Flag (the car runs fine thank you very much ):

Oh my.....

That is an awesome workshop.... complete with Sam Adams and a Battle-axe... does it get any better than that?

I think not.
