I am hoping it turns out as well as I imagine it. We use this stuff at work as guard material, among other things. I thought it might work really well for a case.....Thanks for watching. It should be entertaining.

interesting stuff. out of curosity, if you had 45'd the bars in the corners would you still have been able to join them with those plate and slot thingies?

It would be a lot harder for assembly, since the ends, and t slots would terminate at the corners. If you are worried about looking at the unfinished ends, I have a solution for that coming up down the road.

Default Update 3-6-09

Got a bunch done today. Grandma wanted to see Emma this afternoon, which gave me time in the shop to play....

Went from black oxide to Stainless. I figured this way, after I polish the heads, I won't have to worry about them rusting:

Got the lid frame done. Imagine 3 140mm fans in bronze acrylic residing here:

Burned the old one up, plus my finger. Got a new 5 flute(!) at a local ACE hardware store:

Starting to add structure to the bottom frame:

The front panel must remain flat for the aluminum plate, so the alternative route to mounting the cross beams had to be used. Access holes, anti-twist washers, and tapping the ends of a few bars:

You stick your 5/32 allen wrench through the hole to access the bolt. The back couple of rungs are fitted and tightened. Imagine two Opti's in the top, with 2 140mm fans in the other two (inside bronze acrylic):

Strong and Square:

It's a big puzzle, but once I figured it out, it was easy peasy:

I worked around my missing pieces. You can tell where plates were substituted, or left out altogether:

Done for now. I still have unique machining to do to some pieces. The hinges for the top need fit to the 1 inch, it's a bit big for my taste. A couple pieces need cut in half to allow for panel removal:

Mocked up lid:

Looks like it could take a bullet. It's not as heavy as it looks:

You can see the where the piece of acrylic that the motherboard mounts to will go. There will be 1 inch from the back of that panel to the face of the outside panel. This was done for cable management. The MB will mount to a piece of solid black acrylic:

So what do ya think so far?? You can really see some progress, although there is still ALOT left to do. It will, however, be easier to accomplish due to having it right in front of me to measure and tinker with. Something else that is cool.....This whole thing can be tore down to it's basic pieces with ONE tool. A T-handle 5/32 wrench....That is it:
