It's funny you say that. After I get my 4 other joining plates to finish off the frame, I will be taking a pic or two to show off it's strength.

Default Ideas??

Anyone have any ideas on colors/aesthetics for me?? Should I leave it industrial looking or should I pretty it up some? I originally thought about painting the joining plates satin black, polishing all the bolt heads, and leaving the bars anodized gray. I had kicked around the idea of polishing the bars also, but I don't have a buffer/polisher in my shop (yet), and that would be an insane amount of work, ruining the anodizing in the process. Painting on the other hand is a possibility.

On another note, what color acrylic do you guys think should go in it? A combination of solid black and a dark bronze tint is what I was thinking. Now I am thinking colors might look decent. Interior lighting is another thing. Go entirely UV and buy fluorescent acrylic and paint and go to town on the inside? Or do a bunch of solid color cathodes? I am up in the air about pretty much all the aesthetics of this build up to this point. Do I want a Classy looking case, an Industrial looking case that Trent Reznor would be proud to use? A Gamers/Lan party "look at me" case? I am leaning more and more to the Classic Piano black and aluminum.

i say go for the classic 'piano black' feel. i dunno what system you're putting in, but black circuitboard components are a must. then have a few short white CCFLs in there, carefully placed for a very clean, understated glow.

perfection.

I must say I'm not a real big fan of white CCFL's, but with the tinted acrylic, that might be an option. I could always add a 2nd strand of color, to change it up some if I want.

As far as hardware goes, I am thinking of either filling it up with the sig rig, or wait until next year to fill it with an X58, DDR3, and a i7. By then we should be seeing the 2nd or 3rd revisions, everyone will know what OC's best, and I will have my piggy bank filled back up

Edit: Does anyone know if EVGA's X58 boards share the same standoffs as the 780 boards?

I would say leave the pieces the color they are now. Then use dark acrylic; ideally, the type that is black unless you have light inside. Then you can put strategically placed black lighting and/or white CCFLs as curly haired boy recommended. Thus, when the PC is off, you see only the black and silver. Boot her up, and the acrylic becomes translucent permitting you to see the sparkily goodness below.

(It might be good to paint the heads black gloss in this case.)

I look at cases like pieces of furniture. They're in our homes, and we (usually) see them every day.

That being the case (... yeah, that pun was intentional), the finished aesthetics of the case really should be what you feel like looking at every day. Think about where it's going to live, and what its surroundings will be. Is it going to be in your shop? Your den? Your bedroom?

At any rate, its coming along nicely Ramsey. I was having trouble keeping up with your naming scheme there for a bit, but I think you've found a keeper.

I definitely understand the selection of 1/8" thick aluminum now. I wouldn't have done it any other way either.

For future reference: metalsdepot.com is another source for aluminum. Their selection of alloys is limited, but their selection of sizes is excellent and their pricing is generally pretty good. Processing and shipping of orders isn't the fastest, but the more you order, the cheaper the shipping gets (iirc, over $300 orders and shipping is free). They also package stuff extremely well in my experience, reinforcing with 1x4 pine when needed. I've had great luck with them.

This sounds like a winner to me. About the same thing I was thinking at the beginning.

Thanks for the heads up on Metalsdepot.com, I will look into it.
....and yeah, I was having a tough time naming my project.....LOL

Needless to say, this case won't be shoved under any desk (maybe built INTO a desk later), but will be sitting on it's own small cabinet I picked up in a silent auction at work.

Thats looking great, Awesome job!

I think a combo of anodized red/silver/black would be a sick look. Leaving the frame silver and adding some black and red to it Powder coating is another option too
