@CattleRustler: No worries man.

@nategr8ns: Well, while I'm not too impressed with it either, I was able to run HL1 games on my macbook w/o issue. Plays just like on PC so long as I play it in windowed mode. Haven't tried too many apps though...

@kidshenlong: eheh, thanks. Taking a glance at your avatar, you probably know why I named this project "Hollow" too. I'm very tempted to do a hollow mask decal as part of my right side case window.. If I do so, I'll probably also keep a code geass decal in there as well. So while originally a bleach related idea, it's slowly morphed a little. Basic concepts will remain the same though .

Basically, if what I have in mind won't look like art that was well thought out, I'm not going to do it. It's my highest hopes for this project to turn out like a work of art, no matter how far I do or don't go. But of course.. I would prefer to go some distance with it.

Parallels Desktop is a pretty good windows virtual machine thing for mac. My x has it on her mac. I dont think it supported DX but they may have been adding it. I know you could run windows and win apps without problems.

I think I have an older version of parallels desktop laying around somewhere.. Certainly isn't the newest, but if Crossover Mac doesnt work w/it, i'll try and dig up my copy of parallels.

As for this case mod project, I'm long over due to leave a note here to say that this hasn't been an intentionally neglected project. As many probably know, unemployment sucks, so my only funds have been at very odd intervals and amounts. Basically all of the sanding of the original paint is gone, including the tiny and annoying strips of paint that sandpaper has a difficult time reaching (I got frusterated with it and scraped those crevaces with my Xacto knife ).

I need to clear out and delete some pictures on my camera memory card, but once that's taken care of, I can take new ones and post 'em.

A new idea I came up with that I'd like this case to have is a built in Xbox controller port. For those unaware, the original Xbox controller ports were just standard USB in a different shape/mold. If you cut an Xbox controller wire open, you'll see the four wires USB uses-- Red, Green, White and Black. There's a fourth for Xbox only which is Yellow, but it was rarely used (lightguns, and weird crap like that).

So what I'll be doing is splicing Xbox controller ports to the case's top USB ports, then carefully dremeling out a hole for each (starting to think if I do one, I might as well do two, as there are two top USB ports, and Xbox ports come in pairs). I have also debated on adding at least one PS2 controller port. I have a lot of roots in console gaming (though i've started to appreciate both console and PC gaming equally), so adding these would definitely make sense on a case belonging to me.

The thing is, if I add more ports, I may end up needing a cheap USB hub to power the extra ports. If I did that, i may strip off the hub's plastic enclosure and remove the USB ports themselves. If you don't understand what I mean, take a look at this picture. After that I would solder the usb wires directly to the pcb and put it in heatshrink tubing... 'Cause I mean come on, it would be so tacky if I left those ports and the enclosures on. Can you imagine a case modder duct taping this and this to the top of his PC case w/o trying to integrate it one bit? LOL, of course not.

One other thing I'd have to do is power the hub internally (since most require extra power, etc). That should be no problem. Xbox ports will be the first most likely to be added, and the PS2 one would just be "nice" to have. Not because I prefer PS2 controllers (I prefer Xbox), but because I have some awesome novelty controllers for it:

Feel the retro.

EDIT: One last thing I forgot to mention is I will likely gut the top firewire port for hosting an esata port instead. I'll probably pick the esata port off Dealextreme, because I remember a moderator or admin here saying the best kind they found was over there... If it's cheaper than newegg, and it beats the quality there.... I'm all over that.

Wondering if there had been any more work done on this case or if the project had been scraped?

There's been work done, yes, but I refuse to scrap it. I've just been extremely busy with school and work lately, and now a girlfriend as well. Even so, I'll probably have some time in the next coming weeks to give the mod more attention.
