sorry for the double, the steel for the star arrived yesterday and I picked it up this morning from xMIL. Its in the trunk of my car, Ill check it out this evening. Basically just two 4' sections of round bar at 5/16" thick. I need to make the template for it tho.

My modding schedule is a bit hairy these next two weekends because Jess is starying with me for the next 9 days (with xmil during work days) while her mother is off on a tryst with the new boyfriend. As for this weekend I have friday, nothing saturday, possibly a couple hours sunday, but monday is a holiday so Ill have some time that day.

First order of business is to gring out (and refile iff necessary) the spot welds I did in the rail to hide the screw hole fiasco. Then the hook mount needs to happen. I think I am going with the one I mocked up in 3ds, with some slight adjustments.

after that I think I can begin on the star, and start getting this thing ready for chrome

Lightbulb Trolley idea

I've been lurking around these forums for a few months and have been highly impressed by your craftsmanship. I thought it was time to pitch in with an idea, so I drew a rough sketch of something to go along the whole trolley idea (see attachment).

Basically, you just bolt two V-grooved track rollers to a plate that would support the hook. If you're worried about left-right balance, you could even use 3 or 4 rollers, but two rollers, tightened on the track, shouldn't cause too much of a balance issue.

You could have the rollers machined, if you need a side cross-cut view of the interiors with bearing and retaining rings I'll be happy to make you one with proper tolerances. You could use these rollers if you don't want to make your own (or have them machined): McMaster #6318K61. Overall, considering machining and bearing costs, the McMaster ones are probably going to come in a bit cheaper, although they won't have the perfect profile and may be less stable.

Nine days with Jesse? Methinks it is time to teach her how to overclock Gumdrop.

That's true, but Greenie Poo is already faster. In any event, I look forward to seeing Cattle's genius fix for the hook mount.

Gumdrop is at her moms house, Greenie-poo is where its at. But no overclocking until 4 years old (gives me time to learn )
as for the the hook mount, its far from genius, I am just hoping for "passable"

Relax CattleRustler; overclocking is much easier than modding. At least, in my dabbles with both. And I refuse to believe your modesty regards genius.
