Default Generation *Updated April 24th BIG UPDATE!*

mmk, so hey!!
This is theeeeeeeeeeeeeee *intro music* work log for my case mod of a CM 690. i am starting this thread a day early -the case arrives tomorrow- because i am already working on it.
how you say? well i am going to paint it. and not just to change the color, i will be painting it a minimum of 2 new colors, white and blue (maybe some green and red) but with the majority of the case remaining black. Also, i am putting my artwork all over this case.
officially...this is the *doctor evil stance* "Planning stage." With a freakin lazer...

Planned mods!.... ... :

1: cutting out rear, top, front, and bottom fan grills.
2: possibly cutting more holes in motherboard tray for wires, and drilling hole in the motherboard for zip ties/cable management
3: painting the interior a flat black
4: Using Bondo to fill in the 2 fan holes on the left side panel.
5: painting the left & right panel, the top, and the front of the case.

The cutting is of course straight forward, i have already modded my CM stacker like that and know how it works.

Painting the interior will be straight forward, but to note this is the first time i have ever painted a case.

Painting the exterior is already presenting itself as a challenge, i will have to use stencils, and multiple layers of them...This part may be progressive and if i can stand it will become fairly complex (tho the complex part will be a while later).

i think thats mostly what i want to SAY...now to Show you the artwork that i have done and will be incorporating into this build.
now bear with me...i have alot i want to show because this will (hopefully) be a showcase, and i am wanting to bring in many bits from each piece of art.

The last one has actually already been selected. It will be on the right side panel (back side really) of the case, this side will be painted white, and then the shapes painted in via stencil.

Currently i am still drawing up what i will do for the top, front, and mainly...the left side panel.

If anyone finds anything within this art that you strongly feel should be painted on, copy the pic, edit out the extra, then PM me or post it on here. I am having trouble figuring out the design i want.

What is really frustrating...is that i cant, or rather dont know how, to paint on lines... as you can see lines are alot of my art. If you know a good way, please tell me.

COMPUTER PARTS:
doesnt exactly need to be added, but i will say that everything that is in my current sig rig will be put into this case. I will be adding fans when i get the money to, will also be replacing the PSU. Other than that the build is mostly the same until i have a real amount of money to do my upgrading.

Thanks for reading i cant wait to start my first significant mod, i hope it goes well, and i hope you all enjoy! Questions as always are welcome.

Finally,...please forgive such a long first post

yeup thats right. Dont get me wrong, when i first had the stacker it was awesome, but now i am tired of it, it's to big!!! so much empty space in there. the worst part tho...is that on the front panel, i dont have any of the usb ports or the headphone/microphone jacks plugged in so i can use them..because the cords dont reach to the mobo! lol

i specifically looked for a case that had the power switches and the other plug ins (usb, headphone, mic) on the top or the top front... the 690 has it all for me

Thanks for the compliment on the art too! if you want a print lol ill make one

Your design choice is money. Looks like it should stencil well.

For lines, have you considered paint markers? They get pretty fine (1.5mm).

An automotive pinstriping product might work if you weren't doing a ton of lines in one spot. http://stripeman.com/auto-pinstriping.htm

Or perhaps a hobby pinstriping product... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...H=STRIPE+TApE+

Default First update.

Righto. So i actually thought i would get the case in around noonish, but noooo, had to wait till 5:30pm...grr at ups man but oh well.

Here we go!

Current set up with the Stacker (have removed the front filters already)

Box is awesome

Our Sponsor!!!

i never truly appreciated a brand new case like i have this evening

taking it apart...only a couple minutes after i removed the plastic

These cords...are longer than the ones that were in the stacker...thats just sick...

had one kind of tape on there, AND IT LEFT THIS CRAP!! been fighting with it for a while trying to get it off...anyone have an idea??
geez..so early into the build and this happens..

i will have 1 or 2 HDDs max...and am considering cutting the rest of the cage off (inside the box)

first cuts...i really do not like these plastic deals...they are purely aesthetic, without any benefit. the front mesh already blocks enough air, but ill keep it

in pieces

Tomorrow i will start cutting up the honeycomb and the bondo

The first time my brother told me this I tought he was lying. He wasn't *gasp*. This is an awesome tip. (Thanks bro!)

Peanutbutter will remove most types of tape / sticker goo. Then clean peanuty mess with soap + water or rubbing alcohol, depending on the situation. A word of caution if you weren't already aware: some plastics (i.e. acrylic) react negatiely on contact with alcohol. Always test on an inconspicous area first.
