@ Krusher33, I had a quarter of an idea, which is better than no idea at all I guess lol, side panels I always seem to leave until last, and I think that's because to me they are the most important, they really catch your eye and this is from a case modder's perspective, a scratch build, you have to capture every panel and hope it captures the attention of your audience, so I'm hoping my side panels really pop.
@ prosser13, tyvm , I hope I don't fail your expectations.@ Shiryu_Libra, I wasnt planning to until i made the borders, then I couldn't think of a way to cover them up, then the idea of using acrylic hit me like a brick and it seemed the best possible way to highlight the case edges, ty ![]() @Warfarrin88, ty

Started on the back panel and had taken some pics of how I pieced the corners together but they all came out blurry, I'm not good at close up pics yet but am working on it.
Basically i piece the 4 x L shape Alu in a rectangle and used a larger L shape Alu to connect the corners together, and added 2 rivets to each piece so they all connect, then lined them up on the back panel, made some holes and drilled them out then drilled those out, added the acrylic, dremel those holes through, then put the whole lot together, one huge test fit. ![]() Like so. Also added the Lian-Li motherboard tray taken from my old series 7 server tower that I have no use for, but makes good as spares, and added it to the back panel. ![]() ![]() Head on. ![]() Close up. I'm pretty wrapped how everything has turned out so far, but am far from finished, I decided to add an upper and lower piece of Alu tubing and connect the whole lot together just to see how it looks and how big it will eventually be, bare in mind that this isn't the build I'm going to be using, its just to see if I need to extend or shorten the overall size of the case, and from these next pics, you'll be able to see it's pretty big as is. ![]() ![]() ![]() There doesn't appear to be a lot of room in it at the moment, so I may extend its length somewhat, to accommodate for the 5.25 bay nor the hard drive bay/s, these will be addressed when I commence the chassis build tomorrow, or later today. The front and rear panels are also very heavy, even for a front and rear panel, so I will be cutting away some of the area within the rectangle bracket to lighten the panels a bit. Still lots more to do ![]() Seth |

I'm new to this but I'm curious: What's making the panels heavy? The aluminum, the acrylic, the size of it, etc?

@ Krusher33, Mostly the Acrylic. The front panel has acrylic as backing, the fan grill and DVD thingy also has acrylic backing it. The aluminium dosn't weight anything really, but acrylic is 3mm thick. The back panel is pretty much the same, its one giant piece covering the entire back panel, though its not as heavy as the front, but overall the two combined make the case heavy, and I havnt added the left, right and top panel yet, I have to take this all into consideration, especially once hardware is installed, I'd like to be able to lift it with some ease instead of using a forklift to move it. (slight exaggeration I know but you get the idea)
Lian Li pride themselves on excellence in design, and their cases are light weight prior to any hardware going into them, and this is what I would like to achieve to some degree. |

You've actually inspired my creativity part of my brain and I'm beginning to have an idea for my wife's case. But wanted to know what made yours heavy. Thanks.
