Default Packard Bell=====>m0nowall case

The Pitch
I'm in need of a firewall box. I looked at dedicated systems, too costly, not enough features. Solution: m0n0wall. The requirements for m0n0wall aren't steep at all. So even with this old Packard Bell, I'm good to go.

The case is the classic off-white. It's ugly. I want a black case with some silver accents. Like my main rig.

The Subject
Specs
AMD K6/2 450Mhz
128Mb PC100 RAM
No HDD(not needed)
3.5" Floppy Drive
CD-ROMs
3 NICs (WAN, LAN, & Wireless)

Pictures:

The Plan
Key areas are going to be painted silver. These will be taped off to make the m0n0wall logo. Then the case will be painted black. Then obviously removing the tape will reveal the MW logo. Finally clear coat will be applied to protect from being kicked, since it's under my desk.

Maybe Pile
I have spare blue LEDs I may replace the power LED with a blue one. Also I wanted to make this system silent. No HDD really helps, but the CPU fan hums along. I may Either find a larger socket 7 heatsink or drop the fan to 5V. As for the PSU. I may do the same for the fan.

Timeline
Normally I could do this in a single sitting. But school is up in 2 weeks. I'll try on the weekends until then. I'll post pictures and information as I go along.

QFT...Pretty sure I did as well...ran this fantastic little Pod knockoff game with very substandard graphics, but I loved it.

I wouldn't drop those fans to 5v...its not enough to start some fans. You could take them down to 7v tho.

Just my

This is true. I built a large power supply, logic probe and function generator for school. I added a 60mm fan. It wouldn't start with 5v. So I added a 12v Regulator.

I'll look into it further eitherway.

Beginning the process today.

I cleaned off all the old sticker goo, Mmm goo gone. Washed the sides and the front fully. I'm not going to paint the top of the case today, But I should get a big dent in the sides/front.

The sides and the front are drying in the sun right now. I opted agaisnt doing the monowall logo. Instead I'm going to get some vinyl made. That way if the PC becomes something else I don't need to repaint.

I'll post pictures once it's dry.

She got a little scratch on the way in but nothing big. Still better than what it was.

Next weekend I'll tackle the top part.

I got some wire wrapping to do
