Default Right hand drive 300 (Half assembled -6/10/09)

So I ended up buying an Antec 300 at Fry's the other day for $40. I wanted to do something with it and since there have been a few 300 build logs lately I wanted to try and do something a little different. It's kind of work as you go project and I'm not sure how it's going to end up.

Things that I want to do are:
  • Paint, not sure if just the inside but I'm thinking on doing the outside as well. Color of choice is PURPLE
  • I also want it to be quiet. I'm thinking on spraying some plastic-dip and then painting over it. I'm just not sure how well the paint will bond to it.
  • Airflow can't be sacrificed.
  • Most importantly is, making the case "right hand drive"

To Do List:
  • Paint top and sides purple Finished 6/9/09
  • Plastidip the interior Finished 6/3/09
  • Custom fab drive cage
  • Cut window for side panel Finished 6/10/09
  • Figure out way to get power cable to psu
  • Buy black PSU OCZ ModXstream Ordered 6/3/09
  • Install CCFL
  • Make a cover for psu slot in the rear
  • Misc. parts, such as purple thubscrews Painted 6/10/09
  • Sleeve cables

So everyone knows what an Antec 300 looks like. I'll start of with what I've done today.

I took the computer completely apart, taking just about all the rivets out. I didn't do this so that I can get a better paint job, it's just something that needed to be done.

These pics are just mock up pics. Nothing is really mounted or secured. I just had it like that to see how things were going to line up and what modifications need to be made. I also should mention that the psu isn't going to go where it normally should. I don't want it covering the top fan. I"m planning on installing it in the 5.25" bay. I just need one of those cables that the Lian Li AO5 uses.

That doesn't look like the 300 i have, Its all wrong in the back lol My psu for my 300 is in the bottom, not the top
I/o Ports should be flipped to the top. Are these actual pics, or modded pics? I dont get why its flipped backwards at the back panel lol
Also i got 2 fans, looks like you dont. I have 120 mm tricool and 140 mm tricool. 140 fits top panel, 120 back panel Also my case was 60$ lol

That's what the mod is, I flipped the case. The top 140mm is still going to be on the top, but the psu is going to be moved elsewhere so that the 140mm remains functional. Both fans are out of the case, since I have it taken apart.

That Sir is a very original Idea!
I Like!
You just flipped the back plane and swapped the MoBo tray side panels... right?
Verrry clevah!
I like the name "right hand drive" too- very appropriate -as it's now effectively a BTX case!

You're saying "Wait, WUT what's right hand drive have to do with BTX?
Well...
when the BTX cases first started appearing I couldn't for the life of me remember what they were called...
"You know that other style case... no... NOT ATX... you know....
the one with the MoBo upside down on the other side of the case and the PSU up top...
you knowwwww.. Ohh frick what the eff are they called ..."

so I thought of a memory trick: A(merican)TX and B(ritish)TX - hence right hand drive = BTX
and everything is opposite- just like right hand drive cars!
(or, left hand drive if you're used to right- anyway... opposite to the Normal)! (but is it Chiral)

But -that's just me...

Anyway...

How is the alignment? are you going to have to do some mad fudging and drill all new rivet holes?

Subbed for the duration-
I'm most intrigued about your plan to do Paint-over-Dip (PoD™)
Cheers Sir

Novel ideas all around...

I'd be hesitant about paint over plastidip though. Plastidip goes on thick and rubbery. I don't think paint will like bonding to that surface, and you wouldn't be able to sand until you had about 3-4 coats of paint on... but by all means try it out, maybe on the side panel first (where it'd be easiest to take off).
