I didn't see any explanation of your technique (might have missed it), do you mind explaining a little? You used a router obviously, and a flush trimming bit, I think... but how did you end up with your lines? just a straight edge guide or did you cut a pattern to go inside of? Or something else?
Yea i just used a guide. No way you could do that freehand(your talking about the inset for the windows right?).

I would also like to thank everyone else who commented. I put a lot of work into this thing and really love how it turned out. Honestly that blue should turned out darker, and I really coated it up trying to make it darker but it wouldn't go anymore. Oh well, not a big deal really. Thanks everyone!

Yep, the window inset. If you've seen in mine, I inset from the inside and used some straight edges and clamps to guide the cut... (yeah freehand would be ridiculous!).... BUT I'm thinking that what I'll do for the next step would be to do an inset from the Outside, with a much larger window... but instead of clamping straightedges, I would make a pattern template in plywood (I mean a sheet with a cutout that I place over the side panel and clamp down). Then I could use a flush cutting bit with a bearing. (seems like a longer way to do it at first, but then makes it easy to do the exact same size window on the other side!)
So that was what I was asking... what kind of guide you used for the cut.

Yea, I just set the length of the bit so that it would only cut away enough to fit the window into. I used a straight edge and clamps to give me a guide.

Ok, I'm impressed. That came out looking seriously awesome. I don't really care for wood cases usually either.

First off, man this build is sick!

It made me a little sad seeing the old parts though.

Extremely nice work, I'm impressed.

Ok, last question, then I'll stop bugging you ... is it a friction fit for the window, or are you attaching it somehow?
