Yep. Just pulled the trigger on a new Corsiar 650TX and some Arctic Silver 5.

This project's cost is getting out of hand

lol

Just un-pulled the trigger

I need to re-think the wire management instead of spending the extra $$

Default PSU Mounting Bracket

A little tired yesterday so I only got one thing done - the PSU mounting bracket.

Took some L-aluminum and cut it to length and drilled some holes

This is how it will mount on the PSU

Drilled and tapped the PSU case for two 8-32 stainless socket cap screws

Mounted on the bench

Next:

- Mount power switch and hdd light
- Drill two more wire management holes
- Add optical rack
- Sand and Paint!

Default Paint and Moar Stuff!

Well I finally got to painting. I think the next station I build (If I build another one) will have to be made out of something other than MDF. Maybe solid wood or some aluminum stock or acrylic. The edges of the MDF just soak up any paint which makes the edge look sorta unfinished.

Not to mention that working with MDF is a pain and it cracks/splits/chips easily so its not hard to damage it.

The paint seems to be going on ok and it should be decent enough for my liking The color is charcoal gray by Rustoleum. I'll have some more pics once it's fully assembled - has to fully dry first.

Oh whats this?? Moar Stuff....?

Primo-chill Anti-kink springs (silver/gray)

GELID 92mm Silent 9 Fans (x4)

HP SATA DVD Drive w/ Lightscribe (from newegg)

Bitspower acryic "T" - which I will use to drain the loop and a 45 Degree Bitspower swivel barb to give me the angle I want on the drain line.

Bitspower mini res top for DDC / Laing Pump. Comes with (2) 1/2" ID Fatboy fittings and one plug fitting. I'm very impressed with the quality of this res - all the lines are clean and fittings fit perfectly. Cost me $34.95 + fittings.

Only thing left to do is assemble the station - install the PC hardware and then install the water cooling loop.

Hey Slider46:

This is coming along nicely.

A couple of "tricks" when working with MDF. Firstly, the edges can be made smooth. Use either Bondo or if you don't have that available, you may use spackle. After the material dries, just sand flush then prime and you can get a mirror finish out or it.

The other thing, MDF is prone to cracking and splitting when not pre-drilled. Make sure to pre-drill the joints, take them apart and remove any excess material that is created and voila no more cracking/splitting.

Everything was pre-drilled but it's especially difficult when working with 1/2" thick material. The shortest screws I could get ahold of that were 1" long were almost too thick (diameter-wise) so even after pre-drilling there was a slight bulge on some of the joints.

If I had an actual workshop i'm sure I could spend a lot more time perfecting everything but living in an apartment limits the type of modding I can do and so far i'm pleased with how this project is turning out

I do like the bondo/spackle idea. I'll keep that in mind.

my mdf bench is also in 1/2" using 1 1/4" screws. I think the trick that prevented any bulging or splitting for me was (aside from predrilling) the screws I used were very thin (4-40 thread). Of course I got one spot that started to split, but I saved it, and of course it was right on the front right where the upper platform meets the side I think I saved it tho, and its an area that needs some body filler anyway so I think it will be ok. the project is meant to be quick and dirty anyway, if it sucks or I hate it I can always redo it in acrylic (which I may do at some point anyway)

keep rockin

edit: the thing bothering me now is stability. when I had it bolted together the other day, I was able to flex the thing left to right. I need to retest that as I may not have had the screws as tight as I should have - not sure. Worst case I can add some L brackets in the lower compartment (4) along the center line, all the way around
