Default FoldinFish

Started off with the idea of painting the F@H logo on the side of the Rocketfish I picked up second hand. It is a pretty good case, but needs a lot of work. I started with this because it seemed to be the easiest of the tasks ahead and having something to look at completed will help in the days to come. First I etched the outline on the case with an exacto knife (very lightly). Next I started painting in the colours one at a time.

Got the red finished... ...still needs a second coat. Oh... ...I am brushing this on BTW.

Added the pink... I know it is upside down, but it won't be on the case, I just found it easier to work with it this way.

Yellow came next.

And the blues...

Finished product. Not mirror finish or anything, but passing by at 60MPH, you would swear it was perfect.

It actually looks good... IMHO

Painted my rad grills red

Top one sitting on the case. You can see the hole for the 240mm grill in the bottom...

The panel again....

This case has a window in it, but it is a pretty ghetto setup (no offense to the original modder if he is reading this). Duct tape on the back holding it on. Going to get some rubber channel and cut it to fit the hole properly... I am loving the OCN applique though. It's a keeper.

My red 360mm rad. It is a BIS.

3 Yate Loons mounted and ready.

Got some blood red dye. My WC system has a dual bat res, MCP655 Vario, two MCW60's on GTS250s and an old DD cpu block. I also have an old Thermochill HE240mm rad. This will all go in the Rocketfish once I get it ready. Going for a black and red theme. Even has one red pcb and one black on the GPUs. One is an XFX and the other is an MSI. Black EVGA 780i board, Black Corsair TX650, and the there is my baby blue Gskill 1066 ram.... gotta do something about that!!

Got some black antikink wrap to cover the blood red dyed water...

Lots more to come in the next week or so. Just wanted to post something to help motivate me. This is going to be a major ordeal...

Decided to tear out the case window. It is held on with duct tape...

NICE!!!

Tore it off (duct tape was crazy strong) and found the window might be salvagable. I like the OCN applique and would like to save as much of the original case as possible (just because). The original modder appears to have scribed the window and broke it off. Some spots not as cleanly as others.

Also removed the molding (c-channel) around the hole. It was glued on with some kind of adhesive, but came off pretty easily. I plan to mount the window with the lock strip molding, so I need to cut it down to size. The square hole will present some issues, but I think I have some ideas on how to cut the lock strip molding to make it look OK. We'll see...

This is one of many issues to be tackled as this project moves forward...

Got the window installed. Unfortunately, there was a crack in the window that would not allow me to save the applique sitting horizontal. I have decide to try to save as much of the old case and parts as possible. A little extra challenge. I managed to save the window, but was forced to mount it with the applique vertically mounted.

Used lock strip molding to mount the window in place. Nice fulsh mount looks great.

Here are a few shots of the case as is. Needs torn down and painted.

Scratches and paint chips everywhere

Blacked in the lines between the colors on the f@h logo. I think it looks much better

Decided to mount the top 360mm rad today. Turned out to be more of a challenge than I thought. None of the holes on the grill or the case lined up and many needed to be fixed.

Here is the rad and the grill

Removed the top pf the case to paint the interior and figured it will be easier to mount the rad this way and install later.

As you can see, the original modder did not cut the ears out for the radiator. They just cut a big hole. The grill will easily support the rad, so no real problem there.

Here is how far off some of the holes were...

Managed to get everything installed after an hour or so of refitting.

Used some little black screws, rubber spacers (bolts a little long), and washers I painted black.

From underneath...

HERE IS THE SECOND HALF OF THE MOD.

I don't think that it's air brushed, it looks more like hand brushed. If you look closely, you can see the brush strokes.

Yeah, it is hand brushed. Cool to think it looks good enough to be airbrushed on...
You can definately see the brush strokes, but at 5 feet+ away, it looks really clean. Does anybody know where I can get some rubber h-channel to mount the window properly?

Nevermind... found it.

Default The case window...

Need the case to set up off the ground in order to push air out the 240mm rad mounted in the bottom of the case. Looked at several options (hockey pucks, wheels, etc.) and settled on picking up these 4" wooden table legs from Lowes.

4" is way more than I needed, so I chopped them down to a little over 2"

A little black paint to match the case...

Nuts and washers get a spray too.

Knock the original legs out and in they go...

Inside view

Sits up quite nicely now. Very stable too. No wobbles.

Red face for my Rheobus Extreme...

DVD front plate and 3.5" bay reducer also...

Rad gets a coat as well...

Started putting the gear inside. EVGA 780i, 2 GTS250s (one red MSI and one black XFX just to keep up the red & black scheme). Good ole TX650, 4GB Gskill 1066, pair of HDs, and the rads so far.

360mm up top.

240mm on the bottom.

The two GTS250s...

Getting the hoses routed...

Filling and leak testing with 2nd PSU.

Getting closer to final...

Here is the front...

Side

Window view.

There it is. The FoldinFish. Pumpin out about 11K PPD right now just folding the cards.
