Default Project: Dark Knight UPDATE 8/29/09 **HDD Cage Completed**

~Project Dark Knight~
custom wood computer case
By: Rick Arter and Bob Hoff

Introduction

I have completed my prototype tech station and am moving on to this build which will be the first "actual" tech station.
There are many things I learned once I built the prototype. While the overall functionality is there the look and design had many flaws. I hope to fix all that and have this next unit made out of all wood.

Pre-Build Ideas
Well all I can fully say now is it will be made of mostly cabinet grade oak, I have some other wood I found might work not sure what it is. I will be similar to most wood tech stations in design. Featuring 2 levels, tall sides for fans to mount and integrated handles, custom motherboard mounts, and PCI bracket. I would also like to stain it so it looks better.

I want to make this tech station very professional that's why I am going all wood the prototype just wasn't up to my standards. This unit will be very nice and feature removable motherboard tray with cable management holes. I want the top to be removable so you can install all of the drives and PSU without a lot of hassle. Not sure the method I will use to secure the stuff underneath.

As for final stain color and brand I am not fully sure since I know nothing of stain.

Material List
-1/4-inch Oak and plywood
-1/2-inch Oak and plywood
-3/4-inch Oak and plywood
-Custom Aluminum PCI Bracket
-Wood stain
-Neoprene pads

Tool List
Basic Tools you would find in a woodworkers shop. Nothing special everything done on this and future builds will be with common tools.

-Hand Power Drill/Drill Press
-Jigsaw
-Table Saw
-Bandsaw
-Scroll saw
-Mitre Saw
-Hand Files
-Power Sander
-Dremel(Lotz of bits!)
-Foam Brushes(staining)

More pics and updates later today I am drawing up some more plans. After checking out some measurements decided I wanted to change a few things. This should be a sweet and very unique tech station/case.
