Thanks. That was the site that got me interested a while back.

Just a question, why did you not go with the model with the track ball?? Golden tee is a favorite in a lot of bars, seems like if you are going to have an arcade in your home you would want that option!!

http://www.xgaming.com/tankstick-arcade-game.shtml
I'm no carpenter man, but I'm willing to give it a go. I've done some stuff, but on a smaller scale.

I didn't get the Tankstick controller for one reason; $$. With the $70 I'm saving I'm getting all the wood I'll need. That, and those controllers are meant to be top mounted, because of the pinball buttons on the sides. You could sink it in (if the side buttons weren't important), but I'm doing a 1" cup for it to sit in. It'll look like part of the entire thing, but be removable (Velco, as suggested by the site, FTW!). So if I ever wanted to, I could sell it off and get the Tank. You're right though, it would be cool to have. There's bowling too.

Below the "cup" is where the keyboard drawer will reside.

When I get into a house I really want to build something like this. The Idea floating in my head is to build it like one of those Ms. PacMan Bar table games though...

Subbed to this one. GL on your project!
Lol, I've had my share of speaker box building . Nothing ever as nice as nice as what you probably did though. Necessity is the mother of invention, and we built us some ghetto looking boxes, lol.

Yeah, a cocktail machine would be cool too. We considered that, but I wanted to go grandiose! I remember playing some vector game on one when I was kid. That might be a cool next project, maybe something along the lines of a coffee table-esque design.?.

Thanks!

So, check this out. Long story short:

Load MAME. check
Load Galaga. check
Run game. check
Load front end. check
Didn't really work and needed some config work, cool.
Close front end. check
Load Galaga again. NO check
Hmm.
Erase MAME, throw it back on from the USB I used to originally put it on. check
Load Galaga. NO check
Load any other game. NO check
???
Try loading directly from USB (since nothing actually 'installs'). CHECK!
WTH?
Other MAMEs work too, like the Command line and UI32, but those, don't like the Galaga ROM, LMAO!

Any ideas?

Either way, this thing is getting built. But that is weird. Now MAME32 won't run any game from the HD, just from the USB. Strange. That stupid front end could be to blame, but like MAME, there's no install, just a straight run .exe. I also rebooted, just in case.

I would just use the USB to boot games and continue with the build. When the build is done, you can go back and fix everything. MAME is awesome.

I thought about it the other day. You should get coin slots and use them as the power and reset buttons.

Got it fixed!

No "front end". Basically made Mame its own front end by messing with the GUI.

For a front end-ish look, I'm going to make a web or flash page from which one can select system, i.e. to load the emulator.

That's a great idea! If I can figure out a good method / have the time, then I might, thanks!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've noticed some of the case logs take months to complete, and for smaller cases. I don't want substitute quality for expediency, so we'll see just how long it will take, after the planning stage. I have to consider everything from materials, to future access of all critical parts, to finding the correct hinges for everything. Even something as silly as creating a bezel for the monitor that looks nice, is strong enough for long term use, but still allows me access to the monitor controls can be a chore.

I am also not a math whiz. Measuring out some these angles will be difficult for me. Some things I am going to have to hold in place, while my father marks positions off, like with the monitor. I do have some solutions for these issues, but time will tell.

Alright folks, the controller is here! Brings back some great memories too. Block Up Up FTW!

I'm about to place a Newegg order for some fans, keyboard, cheap 2.1 etc...

Anyone know a good place where I can get:

-Inexpensive, prewired, power switch.
-An extension cable for my wifi card. It's the kind (pci) that comes with a 3 fot cable and a flat bottom antenna.
-3-6' long molet cables . Yes, I can make them myself, but if I can find them on the cheap, then why not?

Pics tomorrow.

Found a new coin door on the cheap, it's on its way. I also got me a 22mm red dot vandal switch from Performance-pcs. I'm going to mount it in the center of the door. It should look pretty cool.

So, people, let's here some ideas! I'm throwing an OCN flame on this thing, so help me out here . Ideas: Color scheme? I'm for black. Semi gloss. I have access to a 36" roll of sticker paper and the printer to stick it in, so graphics are an option. I got a red led Rexus 250mm fan for the top exhaust. And with that red dot switch, red may be another option, for accents. Would it be an insult to put a red OCN flame on there?

Going to the hardware store today. Looking at some wood. ?? You know what I mean. Getting some 12"x12"s for a quick tech deck. A lot of the home built cabinets I've seen incorporate the entire computer, case and all. For me, this cabinet IS the case.

building a mame cabinet is hella fun. although i found creating the control pad (with the buttons and joysticks) one of the best bits, but I'm an electronics guy, haha I had fun wiring the whole thing together.
Anyhow i have some suggestions;
use car speakers if u want them to be installed in the cabinet, not sitting externally. (car speakers look decent, they sound good and are cheaper than in in wall/in ceiling speakers).
remember to factor in the heigh of the wheels (if you're putting them on). I forgot to do this but it all worked out okay since i accidentally measured the wood wrong and ended up putting the control panel 10cm lower than it was supposed to be anyways, and after the wheels were put on it was fine ^_^.

In the end it turned out okay, the last thing i need to do is install a neon light at the top and put a marquee on. coin slot can come later, lol.

EDIT: subb'd

Nice work! And, , I finally to get to ask someone some questions, lol. On this one, being my first, I purchased the controller whole. On the next one (hopefully) I might try getting some Happ components together and giving the controller fab a go.

Where is the keyboard tray? Below the angled part? I found that when designing this, having the angled part pull out may be awkward. I'm doing a couple of revisions, one where the front, under the CP is flat, and easily accessible, but not as streamlined looking. I'll figure something out.

I had actually though of using car speakers. Good suggestion. I have something coming, and I think it'll work. When it comes to that point, I'll post more info.

I've also decided to make this thing the width of the CP, 21.5". Sounds thin, but from what I've seen, it works out pretty well. This will also allow me to great a much thinner bezel, and maybe I'll do that out of black acrylic and then pop a whole piece of clear over hat.

I'm working on some sketch-up's right now. Very rudimentary, but it'll give you folks some idea of where I am headed.

Thanks for the sub!

I've been watching this through the sub for a while now, and I just want to ask you two things. What do you predict the cost of the project to be, and how are you hooking up the game pad to work with the PC? I'd love to do this sort of thing myself.
