The cost, well that's very subjective. The monitor I got for free off of Craigslist. The computer is comprised of things that have been replaced through upgrades, so I'm counting that as $0. I will include a fairly detailed price list when I have all the parts. So far it's: $129 for the controller $100 from Newegg for fans, speakers, keyboard $32 from PerformancePCs for the switch I wanted. $35 for the coindoor $17 for the wood for the tech deck. All prices are without shipping. I'm going with 3/4" plywood, at $17.55 a sheet (4'x8') and I will need 3 sheets. Hardware like hinges and draw sliders, knobs will run about $50-$60. The light fixture will proably be around $20. Then there's the powerstrip, screws, glue, paint. The marquee and bezel acrylic I have yet to price, but I will post that when I finalize my measurements and get a quote. Speaking of, I know there's a few good acrylic shops around the web. Anyone know of one that will not only custom cut (just squares), but also cut a hole (think window) within the acrylic? Thanks. As for the controller, there's a link, I believe, in my fist couple of posts. Some folks buy the parts and an encoder for the connection. You can also hard-wire the switches straight to a keyboard. If you're really into soldering ( ) check this site out for quality parts.Overall, the price isn't too bad, especially since I am also doing this for the experience/fun. Oh, and PS, just in case I misinterpreted your question, the controller I got is USB. I also does PS/2, but it has to be plugged into a PS/2 keyboard in order for that to work. The USB side of works flawlessly. cg

Enjoy. cg

they keyboard trey is directly beneath the CP. <---Click.My cabinet was about 60cm wide so yeah, around the 22-23" inch mark, and it works wonderfully. looking at the sketchups, i think your cabinet will be a bit deeper than mine but that's a good thing - i had to literally take a saw to my screen to get it to fit into the cabinet. I didn't put anything over my screen bezel, just left it as-is. the bezel itself is just made out of chipboard. another hint; spraypaint costs an arm and a leg. To spray just the front and both sides (not including the back, top or bottom) with one layer of primer then 2 layers of black matte cost me around $80AU, so around $70US. but paint is probably, like everything else, much cheaper over there in the US.

I'm just really curious to see how this thing turns out. I'm only asking about prices because I'm curious to see exactly how much cheaper it is than a real cabinet, which go for about $5,000. And this is better since it has more games. My dad was a big fan of Ms. Pac Man, and I know he wanted to get a cabinet a few years ago, so this would be a great alternative. Sketch-ups look nice by the way.
By the sound of it, regular paint and rollers would be smarter and cheaper than spray cans.

Yes I was, and to exnihilo, when I was I was watching for a while I wasn't commenting about the frequency of the updates, just that I've been watching since the first page.

Thanks guys. Looks like you two will be the stars of the thread, lol. Post what you want, when you want.
.Rollers and paint is definitely the way to go. I found some stick on edging, so that will save a ton of time with not having to route 20-30 feet edges. I'm still working on the Sketchup, but what you guys saw is the size correct rough version. I'm adding holes and crap to it. Then I have to figure out the angles on 6 of the spots. I want everything to fit together well, of course, but having done some projects in the past, wood is sometimes a tricky beast. A little warp-age can throw everything way off. cg

More Sketchup's.
Grey = non-movable piece. Tan = movable piece. Black = edge, with PVC edge molding. Fan, monitor and lamp fixture were imported. cg

A MAME cabinet! I WILL do one before I die. Great project OP I'll be keeping an eye on the thread.
Any desire to use multiple emulators? I've had pretty good success for MameWAH which is pretty nice to use once you get the hang of it.

![]() I tried a couple (front-ends), and really liked one. It was very plain; black background, large text that scrolled from bottom to top. It killed, somehow, my machines ability to load Mame though. I had to use a new version of Mame in order to get games to play again. I will have multiple emulators and systems on this. How I will go about making these as cohesive as possible is still up for debate. cg
