Lol, great idea! I know my build isn't a first, but an overclocked arcade-machine might be .

Something like this.

You know (@ everyone), I am going to finish this one, but after this, I want to try my hand (possibly) at building my own controller too. I've been looking into it, and it isn't nearly as hard as it used to be. Not all that expensive either. Maybe I'll do a bar top mini-MAME; with my old AMD 2000+ rig and a 15" LCD. Who knows?

Thanks for the posts guys. If I get my school work done in time, I'm going to try to get the outline down. From computer screen to pencil.

I have a couple CCFLs (red) coming to illuminate the coin door. The LEDs just weren't strong enough. A red fan to replace the blue one in the photos, and a couple of incidentals.

I'll post all the small stuff later on (pics).

What's about the minimum to run MAME well? I might be able to get an old PC, and a tabletop version would be so much cheaper than a full cabinet, albeit, less awesome.

You know what, I haven't really found a definitive answer on that yet.

Some games just run poorly on a system that can run most all other ROMs. I also didn't do a lot of research in that area, because the system I am putting in there should be able to run most anything. Except Crysis, j/k.

Speaking of tabletop or rather cocktail style:

That thing is huge! It serves as his kitchen table. The pic is a link to his site.

Then I found this:

Steampunk MAME! Lol.

And lastly, I don't know what it is, but I really like these:
