I recently purchased the CM 690 nVidia edition case to replace my Thermaltake Soprano body with Tsunami Dream front.
__________________Until I have saved up enough cash for the new parts I want, I'll not be painting it as I don't want to mess up the paint job! However there are a few other mods I want to do to this case. I was encouraged to start up a build log, so here we are! For now this will simply be an image dump. I have half the photos and my bf has the other half so until I get those images I can't really organize this. I can give a brief rundown of the mods however. (These are subject to change) 1. Cut holes in the back of the 5.2" bay to allow a 4-pin molex cable to be pulled through for the fan controller and also for any other fan cables 2. Remove honeycomb fan grills from top and bottom of the case 3. Cut 2 segments out of the ridge at the edge of the mobo tray to allow cables plenty of room and make putting the right panel on easy. 4. Foam for the bottom of the case 5. Remove tool-less devices from the expansion slots 6. Paint the lock sliders on the 5.2" bays green 7. Paint mobo tray, bottom, top and back black. Paint hdd cage, 5.2" cage and the 'wall' behind my tank green. 8. Do something with the 120mm hole in the side panel. Possibly one of the striped AC Ryan Radgrillz painted green? 9. Pro cable management lol 10. Cry about the scratch on the side panel window ![]() 11. Cut a hole at the front of the 5.2" cage to allow the front fan's cable to run straight up beneath the fan controller. Overall I don't think this will be a large (or difficult) mod. I'm not planning on going crazy with cutting up my case. I guess this more serves to show that often you don't have to make massive changes to get a case being functional as well as clean and good looking. I'm welcome to any ideas or suggestions that you may have for what I could/should do too. My radiator: To stop vibration and to help create a 'sealed' environment so that the air will only go straight out the bottom of the rad, we cut some foam to go around the edges of the radiator. Taped it on with black insulation tape and it was so nice and squishy! We ended up screwing through the foam but that's no biggie because the foam is quite thin. (sorry for crap quality picture. The lighting was really weird.) ![]() Some pictures after getting it back to my place that evening: ![]() ![]() Next day: ![]() Bastiaan showed me how to take the lock sliders out so I hand painted them green. I'd originally spray painted one and it turned out quite rough and lumpy so painting them with a brush was the best idea. Before painting: ![]() Afterwards: ![]() And in use: I think they look nice! ![]() Generic shot of the inside lol.. ![]() I put this foam down to make the bottom of the case look tidy. ![]() This scratch happened the day after I got the case. I had the side panel sitting on top of the case and I was being so careful to not bump it. And then I did and it slid off the back, scratching on the green line bits at the back. It took some of the green paint off and left me with this chunky scratch on the window. ![]() ![]() My awesome pump mounting.. We taped foam to the back of this as well to prevent vibration since this would be a pretty loud way of using the pump! So far I haven't heard a single thing from it.

isn't it blasphemous to run an ATI card in a Nvidia case?

hehe, looks good spider!
for that sidepanel, you could always just put a fan in there, with light, and make sure its a silent one.. and if its possible you could try to remove the blue leds from the fan controller and change them to green, idk if its possible but you could give it a try...

Thanks! I had to take the fan on the side panel out because it is in the way of my pump
. I'm wanting to get some kind of custom fan grill but here in New Zealand there seems to be a plethora of grills for 80mm openings but none for 120mm ones. I'm considering importing one of the 120mm crosshair grills though. They look pretty neat.

anyways, dont you have that black mesh what was in front of that gap, covering the fan inside? cause if you only put that mesh on, with some rivets and paint them black its fine i guess...

I got a Scythe Slipstream 120 yesterday for the radiator but I hate it already. It makes a pulsating drone noise so I'm going to try it outside of the case today and if it is the fan and not it vibrating against the rad then I'll have to exchange it for a different one. If it's just vibrating against the rad then I'll go buy some more black insulation tape and tape some foam to the corners to stop the vibration.
